COVID Data Thread

Even if they were that number added today is not even half the case number reported in London today. And the earlier days are way lower. But the media have reported over 50% for Omicron in London for a few days. Just trying to square those numbers.

Perhaps they just mean test results FROM today that willnot be added to cases until tomorrow or the day after as the daily number is a sum of tests done spread over several days?
True. I wonder what capacity they have to test the sequencing of each test.

That Twitter data on the other thread from Dr Ali is very important. Assuming it checks out and continues.

It matches the data from London hospitals (the patient rises over the past few days I posted in here earlier) with WHY they tested positive.

It closely matches what they found in South Africa and is very different from past UK waves.

A lot of the Covid patients are only finding out they have Covid after being admitted for things that are unconnected and are routinely tested. Their Covid is mild and a side issue not why they are in hospital.

Sorry I’ll post it in here too!

Greater Manchester had a record smashing day today. Every single borough recording a Pop Score of 100 or above. First time that has ever happened.

Manchester had the highest daily Pop Score I have ever seen. 217! They also had 1204 cases in one day.
Two weeks ago today it was 208. Last week 534. Yesterday 816.

This has to be Omicron with rises that rapid.

Over 4000 cases in the ten boroughs. Another unwanted first.

I think you will start to hear about Greater Manchester in the media sadly.

But hopefully it does a London and peaks quickly. IF that is what has happened there already.

And hopefully North West patients that will inevitably rise like London did will follow the same pattern as there reported above. Mild illness often not even noticed before going into hospital for other things.

This would add weight to the comments on the news regarding scientists saying that the official estimates are a under representation of the the true number. Large numbers may not be even aware that they have caught it so are carrying on as normal.

Yes I think that may well be the case. The real question is what is best. Let it go and hope it is over by New Year. And only send those in real need to hospital and trust to its milder nature for most. Or try to slow it into a longer crawl.

I do not think we can do much now as measures over Christmas will be imperfectly observed. That boat was missed waiting for data to come in to decide. Measures for two weeks ending just before Christmas might have done something. It is like chasing the train after it leaves the station and accelerates away now. Probably best to go get a taxi instead.

LONDON DOWN from 26,608 TO 25,551 - flattened off and now down a bit. Was 8537 last week.

SOUTH EAST DOWN from 14,959 TO 13,763. Was 8992 last week

EAST DOWN from 10,514 TO 9996. Was 5174 last week.

All the southern regions down

NORTH WEST UP from 7999 TO 8309. Was 6004 last week

Others:

East Midlands 6453 UP from 5887. Was 3628 last week - one of the highest ever scores here

West Midlands 5543 UP from 5126. Was 4694 last week.

South West 5057 DOWN from 5099. Was 4697 last week. (Completes the set ALL southern regions down)

Yorkshire 4376 UP from 3971. Was 3077 last week.

North East 1503 DOWN from 2513. Was 1688 last week.

GREATER MANCHESTER 4317 - highest total ever - first over 4000. Out of the 8309 North West.

GM is 52% of the North West today. Highest split in many months.

Sadly GM is right now the epicentre. More cases today than the whole London region had 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Greater Manchester a record high.

4317 cases today - UP by 678 on yesterday - from the rise of 310 in the NW

That is more than double the rise in the entire region just in Greater Manchester.

Week to week GM is up by 1702 from 2615 - from the NW rise of 2305.

That is sadly miles over expectation (50% up in fact of what it should be) in the split of the NW total again.

So Greater Manchester is clearly today a very significant factor in the England case numbers.

Here are the cases per borough - Yet more new records again.....

MANCHESTER 1204 - up 388 on yesterday & 670 on last week POP SCORE 217* (now 20,039) * Never imagined so never mentioned it could make the 20 K club today as this giant rise in cases to the most ever and the biggest daily and weekly rises anywhere in GM ever equals the highest Pop Score ever too...plus the gap to second of 742 is by miles the biggest gap ever too.

TRAFFORD 462 - up 108 on yesterday & up 113 on last week POP SCORE 195 (now 19,827) Now 909 ahead of Stockport who are about to lose their top spot showing just how extraordinary are the Trafford numbers too.

SALFORD 448 - Up 19 on yesterday & 187 on last week POP SCORE 171 (now 20,494) Highest pop score in GM across the pandemic.

STOCKPORT 430 - DOWN 23 on yesterday & UP 181 on last week POP SCORE 146 (now 18,918) Lowest pop score in GM across the pandemic (for another day or two maybe!) But will be the last into the 19K club tomorrow bar a big surprise after what will be just 10 days in the 18K club!

WIGAN 330 - Up 29 on yesterday & Up 59 on last week POP SCORE 100* (now 19,829) * Amazingly the lowest Pop Score today is 100.

OLDHAM 327 - Up 144 on yesterday & up 120 on last week POP SCORE 138 (now 19,951) - another bound for the 20K club tomorrow.

BOLTON 304 - Up 50 on yesterday & up 162 on last week POP SCORE 105 (now 19,001) - Enters the 19K club just a day ahead of Stockport but cuts the gap by 41 again to now just 83 so probably a couple of days from gaining the now inevitable lead as lowest pop score across the pandemic - a distant dream when Delta arrived there in April and Bolton was on the national news.

BURY 298 - Down 21 on yesterday & Up 99 on last week POP SCORE 156 (now 19,951) Will be heading into the 20K club almost certainly tomorrow too with Oldham as they now share identical Pop Scores.

TAMESIDE 267 - down 17 on yesterday & up 113 on last week POP SCORE 117 (now 19,733)

ROCHDALE 247 - up 1 on yesterday & DOWN 2 on last week POP SCORE 110 (now 20,361) Remarkably flat here though at a high level.

GREATER MANCHESTER BOROUGHS

Weekly Case Totals

Probably to nobody's surprise ALL TEN boroughs now have over 1000 cases a week in the past 7 days & four over 2000 is unprecedented. Manchester's score over 4000 is of course a record. And pretty much everywhere is at their highest numbers.

Oldham 1253, Tameside 1298, Rochdale 1315, Bolton 1550, Bury 1709, Wigan 1781, Salford 2208, Trafford 2368, Stockport 2378, Manchester 4655

GREATER MANCHESTER POP SCORES

After today: CURRENT POP SCORE (Up or Down Past Week) / Pop Score as it was 4 Weeks Ago today

OLDHAM 528 (Up 156) / 288

BOLTON 538 (Up 203) / 360

WIGAN 539 (Up 118) / 395

TAMESIDE 571 (Up 63) / 392

ROCHDALE 588 (Up 78) / 428

STOCKPORT 808 (Up 300) / 310

MANCHESTER 838 (Up 398) / 303

SALFORD 841 (Up 347) / 384

BURY 896 (Up 387) / 408

TRAFFORD 997 (Up 331) / 399

Trafford is close to becoming the first GM borough to top 1000. Manchester, Stockport, Salford and Bury are heading fast into uncharted territory in the 800s going up a lot.

Every borough tops 500.

And a gap is opening up between the 'best' 5 and the rest! Though best in this case means over 500 which used to be the Pop Score number that GOV UK used to put the borough onto the red watch list!

Think we are over the hills and far away past there.

Glad we have a data thread now. It is like the cool air at the top of Everest versus the bottom of a quagmire swamp elsewhere last night - or as far into reading it that I got before giving up rather concerned for the sanity of the British nation as and when Covid eventually mutates into just a cough and a sneeze.

The virus we will need to defeat after Omicron will be Twittercon that has no vaccine but is turning people into crazed loons who have to fight and win every inch of every battle between the most extremist possibility they can believe (or invent).
