Are you really trying to say that Agnew should be a complete cheer leader for the ECB because he’s employed by the BBC? Because that’s completely laughable in itself when you consider they pay Jim Maxwell to come over every ashes to slander us.

It wasn’t even a wild take from Agnew in my view, due to the nagging injuries it looked like Archer was going to struggle to even be a four over bowler so I think calling Agnew a **** for this one is a bit wild especially when you’ve got the likes of Nasser openly pulling for either India or Australia whenever they play us and that lad was an England skipper.

The only thing Aggers can be accused of is boring the fucking shit out of listeners about his euphonium playing abilities but he’s getting his leg pulled about that on a constant basis anyway.
 
On Aggers and Archer the fact that it's taken three and a half years for him to be proven wrong,and thus become newsworthy, suggests it wasn't such an outlandish prediction to make.

It's not the first time he has offered up an opinion on Archer that has subsequently been proven wrong but at the same time been misconstrued into something that it absolutely wasn't.

Back in 2019 he questioned Archers inclusion in the WC squad on the basis of team harmony. He was obviously referring to a side that had been hugely successful, top of the rankings and one of the favourites for that World Cup.

Didn't stop people suggesting it was about something else and making an absurd comparison with Gary Ballance coming into a Test and ODI set up that was anything but settled and successful.

Aggers was having none of it. Calling Lieuw a **** and Ronay a wanker is something we can all get behind surely.

It was only when he was with Leach where he had to take the lead and keep him off strike as much as possible. He had a good partnership with Bairstow before the others came in and were skittled pretty quickly.

I just checked the scorecard and he got 135 not out from 219 balls which shows how much time he took to set himself initially, because we still needed 73 runs when Leach came in and Stokes knocked all but 1 of them off in 10.2 overs!

An absolute demonstration of discipline. Of course he then went on to win the match. A great innings, maybe the best ever by an England batsman.
There was also that innings by Athers in SA to rival it, but iirc that match ended in a draw.

India should have gambled and swung the bat more, When you're 8 down It would have been better to have a go than just nicking singles and protecting the non-batsman, 192 didn't look enough, but the pressure of England having a sort of score on the board on a dodgy wicket helped, Archer Carse Stokes bowled well and when Woakes took the 7th wicket with a beauty, its was just a matter of time.

Crazy how it ended and India didn't deserve that, but its a England win and 2.1 up with Manchester next up ?

It isn't though is it.

Hopefully Dawson comes in for Bashir next as I wouldn't want to be going to Lancs without a specialist spinner (and he gives you a bit with the bat) but I suspect it will be Bethell.

Dawson has been added to the Squad and I suspect he might bat at 8, allowing us to replace Woakes with someone who might not provide as much with the bat (Maybe that Sam Cook).

For what its worth I'd be bringing Bethell into the side to replace Crawley or Pope, and I think he could play the role of a 2nd spinner, but I don't like the idea of him being our only spinner. Maybe something like this:

Crawley, Duckett, Bethell, Root, Brook, Stokes, Smith, Dawson, Atkinson, Archer, Cook

Lara’s stroke making was of higher quality but he was a specialist as opposed to Stokes an all rounder. Lara made a lot of his runs when Windies were only 5 down and they were 9 down only near the end whereas Stokes had more pressure on making a mistake. Hard to pick between them. I’m calling it a draw!

Jacob Bethell will get the place because he bats at 3 and bowls, so it gives England the option of Pope dropping down to 4

He was against a stronger bowling attack. It was peak McGrath, Gillespie, Warne and MacGill.

I never knew Aggers had it in him. Aggers was having a few bowls of humble pie yesterday. He knew he’d fooked up but no lasting damage done.

Was just going to mention Atherton in Joburg. What an innings that was on an absolute brute of a pitch.

Not only did he single handedly save that test match with a majestic 185 not out but that spell that Allan Donald bowled to him was easily the most hostile I've ever seen. Every delivery was an event and when Atherton was dropped on 99 Donald completely blew his top which made he bowl even faster!!

The images of Donald giving Atherton the thousand yard stare after every delivery and Atherton smiling back at him are brilliant

No I’m saying don’t be a shithouse who bets against England players recovering from serious injury. Aggers is an ex England player so it’s akin to a City player blaming Bell, Lake or Rodders for being injured.

Yes he’s a boring twat too but I have quite liked his commentary / punditry over the years. He was a bang average bowler though.
