Cricket Thread

For a Cricket team which let’s face has been ridiculed at times it’s quite remarkable that we have Root as second highest run scorer, Sir Jimbo of Burnley as Third highest wicket taker and top of the fast bowlers, Broad in at Five for wickets and all of their averages stack up well with their contemporaries.

Oh definitely. I guess it’s the impact of T20 (and ODIs before that to a lesser extent) as that’s where the money is and to get in the team you at least need to have some talent with the bat - even if it’s just ‘staying in’ for your batting partner - unless you’re just supreme with the ball.

That's a really good point. You know Moeen Ali used to always get one of the most expensive IPL contracts each year, even well past his prime.

This was because, whilst he wasn't the best batter or the best bowler, he was decent at both. So bowlers will definitely want to improve their batting to get the biggest contract

It may not exactly be "Bazball", but a run rate of 4 rpo in a test match is still not too shabby. 30 years ago, when Root would have been a whiny Yorkie brat, it would have been a rare occurrence.
