That's poor from Stokes - no need to go after that one.

I think, with this style, we'll forever be making these comments! In most tests we've played since Baz took over, we've looked down and out but came back and managed to win. You can't really temper the approach. We're either aggressive or we're not and ultimately when we're not we're shite and when we are we're pretty good. This Australia side are excellent and they're well ahead now. But let's see what total we can get and then how they bat...

Crawley looked great he should of been the one to get big score misjudged the length last ball before dinner that poor! Be surprised if he will go on and get a ton now this serrie

For all the criticism of their tactics, they've been superb. Stop us scoring quickly, force us to play the typical test strokes - rotating the strike etc - that we're shite at and therefore pick up wickets. Ultimately teams have allowed us to score boundaries and we've managed to and amassed good totals. Instead, we're losing wickets regularly.

That was a really poor shot from Stokes, he came in and rather than dig in for a bit and let the scoreboard tick over with singles, he went for the big shots to stick it to them and has lost his wicket.

It's the way we play, and that's fine - it's been better than being 40-5 as we were so often under Root! But we need to still be batting tomorrow if we're to win this test.
Agreed, Australia playing a blinder here.

Still think Duketts exit set the tone of the test.

Big test now for root, bairstow. Gotta dig in.

Ball is doing a bit more now. Hopefully we can add at least another 100 more to stay competitive.

Once again all our hopes on joe root. nit sure how we are going to get smith and Labuschagne out on this pitch with our bowling options.

Sky got more commentators than cricket players and half of them Aussies we love to be fair over here! If it was in Australia they would have 1/2 at most! Morgan and kp are piss poor as well

Yeah it's time to click back a gear. Without cursing him, it's positive to see Root play his natural game. He doesn't need to play Bazball because he can score quickly naturally and in the typical test manner.

What's worrying is, he's finding it quite easy - not really a surprise with the weather and this wicket. That means the Aussies will be able to score easily because they'll play the same shots. We're at least 100 runs off where we should be with 5 wickets gone.

5 wickets down, one put down, one out but not appealed, at home on a belter of a pitch, not a great start, tough series ahead. But at least this England team battles. Oh for a solid opening pair

He is obviously a brilliant leader but for me he hasn’t produced anywhere near enough with the bat for someone with his ability. An average of 35 is poor for a supposed world class batsman

Can’t remember has he done much in the last 3 series we have played?

The Baz ball cricket we have adopted is not for the faint-hearted, it's 50/50 win or lose cricket and sort of takes out the condition and the wicket,

I will say it can make you look like a fool when losing, you are an easy target with the media and the fans

A glorious morning of schadenfreude for Sky today…

Spend the morning session slating the Aussie tactics - go in for lunch 3 down on a pitch the Aussies will hit 600-700 on shortly

Spend the lunch break fellating Stokes to have him throw him wicket away right after lunch…

Textbook.

It does look like the bowlers have failed to generate anything to trouble the batsman. The wickets have all come without that build up of pressure you get on a tough wicket. Aussies will fancy batting on this.

Agreed. He certainly doesn’t merit batting higher up the order than Bairstow
