Really surprised they've not gone for Woakes, but the extra height of Tongue may help extract something from what I expect to be a similar pitch at Lords. We did enough to bowl the Aussies out twice last time, we just didn't take our chances. Looking forward to tomorrow, hope we can go and level the series. If we do so with Lords out of the way then we've got a great chance of winning the Ashes at the more lively and hostile venues to come.

Unless he’s injured, I think it’s a bizarre decision to omit Wood. The series could be virtually over if the plan is to play him at Headingley.
Woakes is a strange exclusion too considering he has a fantastic record at Lord’s.

Suspect that England might have reservations about choosing bowlers with possible fitness issues, especially when there are already question marks over Stokes and Anderson. Tongue has only taken 11 wickets in his 4 Championship games this season, so that 5 for against Ireland at Lord’s sticks out a bit.He’s a lively seamer. Yes, don’t like to see that. Hampshire were docked 2 points for that last season. Hard enough winning the Championship without throwing away points needlessly.Was great catch I thought it got over him! The over rate is so slow though

That would be a difficult call, particularly as he’s likely to retire at the end of the series. Not saying you’re wrong, just not sure the selectors would be that brave.I'd have replaced Anderson also

I predicted full pace at Lords given what we have in the spin department , I cant see them picking Rehan during the ashes unless the wicket truly suggests spin is king , at Lords root as spinner is fineGone for all pace. Not sure its a good idea

Good 50 for Williams and Salt ticking along nicely, but there is just so much time left in this game. Lancashire’s morning and Smith’s drop might be costly.
