Crystal Palace (H) - Post-Match Thread

"Walker was a yard away" what's your point?

He, Walker was behind the ball, hence Laporte was the last man, in the present rules, it's a clear and rightful red.

If Laporte had a brain , he would have been aware Walker was near, would not have made a challenge and Walker with his pace and power could have dealt with the threat, he did not, because like nearly every game is caught dreaming and flat footed.

IF, the situation was reversed and their CB was yellowed and not red carded this board would have exploded and the conspiracy merchants would be out in force.
Not really.

We know it wouldn’t have been a red for our opponents.

Wasn't enjoyable Yesterday, within the first 5 minutes Palace had started playing shithouse football and it was obvious the ref was going to assist in anyway he could.

We did our usual slow build up to just try cross after cross or the occasional threaded ball that is never going to get through a back 8 in their own box, really not sure we have any plan B when we don't score early, the subs sort of said it all to me, just chuck a couple of extra wingers/forward players on and hope for the best, absolutely pointless when we have no room to exploit because of the snails pace we play at.

Said to my old man walking back to the car, for all the money spent, the squad isn't actually that good compared to a few seasons back, we have too many players who want the same space to play in and no proper variety of players in different positions.

I'm honestly not sure having the extra man in midfield really matters that much, most teams just try and play the ball over them to their fast players anyway and more often than not they can carve a chance from it.

Not really.

We know it wouldn’t have been a red for our opponents.
Was is a stupid, utterly unnecessary challenge?

Was it a terrible, naïve bit of defending from a full international player?

Has he done this numerous times before?

The answer is yes to all the above, stop looking for refereeing excuses and blame sh1t defensive performances from the player.

The only thing to blame the ref yesterday for was his ability to stop the inevitable Palace time waiting. For that he should be rightly hammered because he allowed the game be be spoilt.

I have no issue with Palace trying it on, ANY team of their standard would do the same, it's up to the officials to put a quick stop to it.

There was a similar incident yesterday in Leicester v Arsenal, Evans last man was given a yellow and VAR review-. The commentary agreed with the VAR decision for yellow saying it wasn't a clear goal-scoring opportunity because of the distance to the goal blah blah? VAR will go along with Refs initial decision, cnnt Marriner thought he'd never get the red card out. Anyway, stupid action from Laporte.

I am starting to think it is time for a rebuild of this team and a new manager since Pep looks like he is out the door in 18 months. As for this season to early to throw in the towel but it feels different from last year when I always felt we had that extra gear I fear we might get left behind.
Not sure rebuild is the term I'd use but some repair and renovation needed.
My gripe is Pep constantly talking about leaving, or been here linger than he aimed to be, as if doing us a favour.
Having Pep go in to his final year I fear will impact on performance, and whilst I hate myself for saying it I think he extends the end of tge season or we change managerial direction

Pep has a habit of bigging up managers and praising them just after we beat them with 5-6 goals and they let us do that to them.

I wonder if he had any special praise for Moyes/Vieira who actually got great results this week vs him.

Is it just me that ls sanguine about yesterday? First of all it was Palace, who are, its safe to say, our bogey team. Also, we seem to have a head scratcher at home every season, and maybe this is our one for this season.

Liverpool only gained a point on us due them drawing at home so they're still safely within touching distance and Chelsea, I'm convinced, will drop points in the future and they've had a lucky last two fixtures against the worst 2 sides in the league

This time last year we were in 8th place and there were still some more bad results to go until we embarked on that title winning run. It wouldn't surprise me if them lot got a result against us next week but I'll still feel the same about the season.

Keep calm and carry on.

Just seen MOTD and saw the Jonny Evans incident with Aubamayang.

Highlights, as said many times in this thread, how the referees can influence the game. Whatever your view on whether Laporte should have seen red or not, the Evans one was far more of a straight red yet the ref never for one moment looked like he considered pulling that card. Contrast with Marriner who never had any other thought than pulling his red, in fact he couldn’t wait to get it out. Then of course var just won’t reverse those decisions, which is the complete fanny of it all.

The point is the rules of the game, llast man is if there is no other chance of a player catching up with the forward, aporte was one on one and pulled him down 25-30 yards from goal, but was the possibility another defended would have caught him before being in a goal scoring oportunity?

The answer is yes because walker was not far off and is the fastest player on the pitch.

It was a yellow card
So if Walker was on the bench it would have been a red because the other defenders on the pitch wouldn't have that level of speed to catch up with Zaha even if they were in the same positions on the pitch as yesterday ? That's bonkers.
