Crystal Palace (H) - Post-Match Thread

Was is a stupid, utterly unnecessary challenge?

Was it a terrible, naïve bit of defending from a full international player?

Has he done this numerous times before?

The answer is yes to all the above, stop looking for refereeing excuses and blame sh1t defensive performances from the player.

The only thing to blame the ref yesterday for was his ability to stop the inevitable Palace time waiting. For that he should be rightly hammered because he allowed the game be be spoilt.

I have no issue with Palace trying it on, ANY team or their standard would do the same, it's up to the officials to put a quick stop to it.
I’m not sure why you felt the need to reply with an essay? How many of our opponents have been sent off in the first half of Prem games in the last 40 years. I don’t know the answer but I’m guessing it would support the fact that we don’t get a fair crack of the whip with refs.

It appears that the break leading to Palace’s second goal was a handball. The TV footage isn’t definitive but it looks very suspect.

Yes Laporte was poor and I’m glad Stones will replace him but that’s a separate debate. We got beat. I can handle that I’ve seen us lose 100s of matches. Shame you can’t recognise a piss poor refereeing performance. Mariner event booked Ederson for breaking up an argument ffs.

Many people jump to (negative) conclusions. It was a frustrating game yesterday, but it's not the first time we lose from Palace. We lost 2:3 back in 2018. In that period back then (December-January), we lost 3 games within 3 weeks (Chelsea, Palace, Leicester) and then lost from Newcastle in January, but still managed to win the title.

The main lesson from yesterday is that we should stay calm and composed when we concede first and the opposition plays/defends well. The goal in the 1st half got to most of the players, and they misplaced more passes than usual. What we should do when we concede first is to keep moving the ball and look for opportunities to create chances. Palace were working very hard to stop us and would have got tired in the 2nd half had we stayed with 11 players.

Shit happens, move on. Football is unpredictable, especially individual games. It's easier to predict tendencies, and under Pep we are likely to reach 85+ pts. If another team gets more points than us, OK, it's very difficult to win the league 4 times in 5 years. Even Pep's Barca won La Liga only 3 times in 4 years.

We are lucky to have these players and this manager. Fans of many other clubs would be happy to have only a player like Foden, and we have a great squad, easily top 5 in the world. Let's see what happens, the manager and the players will try their best to have a good season.

I think the top brass have got complacent on the football side of things - They're probably more interested in attracting sponsors, advertisers, etc rather than players.

To be honest, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Txiki goes back for Kane in January, hoping to get him 'on the cheap' - Especially now he's effectively downed tools at Spurs.

We've got too many players approaching their sell-by dates, and not enough talent coming through the EDS. If we don't make a few 'marquee' signings over the next two windows, we're at risk of falling out of the top 4... Just in time for Pep to leave.
Yep, even though we spent another 100m in the summer more than one player was needed in the squad. Next summer we'll need a striker, a Fernandinho replacement, a left back to replace the disgraced Mendy? and possibly a replacement for Kev who looks well out of sorts at present. It just won't happen though unfortunately

I hear all the conspiracy theories ever time we lose a game, I hear there is a conspiracy to stop us, and I always reply the same, IF there is a conspiracy they are not very good at it, considering the success this club has had in the last 10 years.

Wasn't enjoyable Yesterday, within the first 5 minutes Palace had started playing shithouse football and it was obvious the ref was going to assist in anyway he could.

We did our usual slow build up to just try cross after cross or the occasional threaded ball that is never going to get through a back 8 in their own box, really not sure we have any plan B when we don't score early, the subs sort of said it all to me, just chuck a couple of extra wingers/forward players on and hope for the best, absolutely pointless when we have no room to exploit because of the snails pace we play at.

Said to my old man walking back to the car, for all the money spent, the squad isn't actually that good compared to a few seasons back, we have too many players who want the same space to play in and no proper variety of players in different positions.

I'm honestly not sure having the extra man in midfield really matters that much, most teams just try and play the ball over them to their fast players anyway and more often than not they can carve a chance from it.
We're nowhere near the level of the team a few seasons ago. Sane, Merlin, and Aguero plus a brilliant Sterling are missed terribly, we simply haven't replaced three of them and the other one has turned to shit

Is it just me that ls sanguine about yesterday? First of all it was Palace, who are, its safe to say, our bogey team. Also, we seem to have a head scratcher at home every season, and maybe this is our one for this season.

Liverpool only gained a point on us due them drawing at home so they're still safely within touching distance and Chelsea, I'm convinced, will drop points in the future and they've had a lucky last two fixtures against the worst 2 sides in the league

This time last year we were in 8th place and there were still some more bad results to go until we embarked on that title winning run. It wouldn't surprise me if them lot got a result against us next week but I'll still feel the same about the season.

Keep calm and carry

Have to agree, without a recognised striker we seem to be going backwards !

And we thought Ole's team was a shambles !

Very disappointing from too many of our key players yesterday.

Pep just doesn't seem to be able to change things around when we fall behind and start to drift through a game. We miss Sergio's ability to turn a game with moments of magic.

So much for the big reaction after losing to West Ham.

Must win next two games or we will end up having a LiVARpool slide like they had last season.

Cannot afford not to to get a recognised striker in January but by then we may only have the FA Cup to play for.

Come on Pep , sort it !

What I was thinking, frankly. We've won three of the last four titles. So the conspiracy needs to be tighter. If conspiracy there is.
What I do now think — what seems undeniable — is that there is a specific hostility to us, in the general way of things. Both from UEFA, and from the media. When I think back on it, we didn't get anything like the credit we should have got for doing that treble.
I don't think we got a fair crack of the whip yesterday, by the way, and I think it was a harsh sending off. Zaha was dropping to the ground as soon as he felt his arms on him. You can look at it fifty times. No pulling seems to take place at that point. That said, Laporte should be cannier than that. He's shown that kind of naivety before.
Problem is, fans — all of them — only really pay attention when their own team gets a rough deal. It's a selective perspective. I can count the number of league matches I watch during the season which don't involve City on one hand. Am I alone in that?
