I think Mr Pellegrini needs to holds his hands up for this one. Playing 2 out and out strikers was naive, and massively underestimated the game CSKA would give us.

Having said that, Dzeko bar setting up Kun, did nothing all night and needs to up his game to warrant selection.

Europe with our current squad needs a midfield 3, with fern and fern holding and yaya pushed on. I had hoped we'd see it for a bit longer than we did tonight

Just watched the replay of the penalty incidents.

Every City player appealed for the Dzeko one.

No CSKA players appealed for theirs.

Strange that.

Fascinating.....but those two incidents should not be the focus of the game,they should be nothing more than talking points.

What I would say is that they had a huge effect on the outcome of the game.

I agree he made some poor decisions but there's a tendency on here at times to alway try and lay the blame at the door of somebody else though rather than looking at our own failings.

People keep doing this. I don't think anyone is trying to say that wasn't a rank bad performance in the second half but a shit performance and shit decisions are not mutually exclusive. Without one or the other we would have probably won today.

I agree. I'd just rather we focus on the one that we can have some control over.

That happens to you when you buy Fernando instead of Pogba and Fernandinho instread of Vidal. Navas instead of Reus and Negredo instead of Levandowski.

I like the lads but it simply is not enough.
I mean look at Fernando or Fernandinho. Those guys try hard. Play till the last whistle is heard and run much buy they simply dont have enough class to make something decisive. Look at Yaya. Yes he's been poor recently but still he was the one who made an assist on Zabaleta.
Fernando, Fernandinho, Navas, These are players that are very desperate but have not got enough class.

Half competent referee and we win that game comfortably.

Regardless of how bad we were in the 2nd half, we need to shoulder some of the blame. However the referee was equally (if not more) culpable for not observing the basic rules of the game.

In short, we need a few arrogant gobshite wankers to refuse to accept defeat or decisions against them. To pressure refs and get in opponents faces, put them off their game and constantly question every dubious decision until we get what we want. We need players who look like they can be arsed, and whose attitudes make them winners and drive others to start pulling their weight a bit more. Craig Bellamy's attitude was absolutely spot on. So is John Terry's. All great teams need some players like this. I don't think we have any.

Once again Pellegrini proves he's a one trick pony. He has his plan A and a small modification that he no doubt refers to as plan B. Thankfully this works most of the time in the domestic competitions, but when it comes to outsmarting the best managers in the game in the CL we come away second best.

For everyone out there scratching their heads wondering why we get out played in the CL let me let you in to a little secret, it’s not the players fault. We have an amazing array of talented players but we consistently fail to take account the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition and fail to put together a plan to contain them, and then beat them. No matter what we play plan A or plan B.

Until we start to be more aware of the opposition and be humble enough to recognise their strengths and ruthlessly expose their weaknesses we will forever underperform at the highest level because we will be beaten by managers and teams that do.

We have one of the best squads in world football and I often wonder how we would progress in the CL and at home if Mourhinio was our manager? Personally I think we'd be imperious in the Prem and mentioned in the same breath as Madrid, Barca and Munich abroad?

Please tell me I’m wrong and why.

We were painfully aware of the strengths of the opposition under Mancini and tailored our own game to them. That got us nowhere either.
