Cyclists

I always make sure a lead rider riding with me owns something audible to use to notify any pals of folk sat in a parked car, motorists can and will fling their door open at will and if you're ready for it it is possible to instantly shut it again on the fly...especially if pinned by a passing car to the right...it aint even worth stopping to argue with the motorist about who would or would'nt be in the right/wrong..it's simply best to set yourself for an avoidance plan beforehand.....it's called riding a bike....the dance is much the same in a car.

You could of course just simply hit the door or the exiting occupant and take the compo..but that would'nt help you complete your ride..given that that was your motive.

Slightly off topic.

A few months ago I was heading north at J11A-M6. I was in the outside lane where it splits from 3 lanes to to 2 inner lanes and the outside lane.

All of a sudden a Spanish truck driver went from the inside to the single outer lane, just before the lanes split.

If it wasn't for my quick actions of slamming on whilst almost scraping the central reservation, I'd of been curtains.

Talk about my life flashing before me was not in it.

Never mind all that shit. You missed the bit about how you and the truck then pulled over on to the hard shoulder and you immediately noticed that the driver was this stunning raven-haired Iberian beauty who was clearly up for calming your shattered nerves and tending to your injuries in the comfort of her sumptuous overhead cab compartment etc etc.......

I wish.

Probably an hairy arsed Catalonian wanting to bum me on the hard shoulder knowing my luck.

Anyone who can't bunnyhop a coke can shouldn't be allowed on the road.

Why don't cyclists have to have insurance, like motorist's have to have?

I know that they are not driving a motor vehicle, and just a vehicle.

But they can still be involved or cause road traffic accidents.

Seems bizarre in this day and age to me.
If you mean kids on a bike, I dunno.

If you mean grown adults well, most already have insurance. The ones who typically ride without a helmet, lights and do 3mph flaunting the laws of the road are....generallly going be relaxed at flaunting a few 'other' laws as well, hint, hint. I posted before that since cycling is experiencing an explosion in popularity, calls are being made to introduce mandatory bicycle insurance. I'd be alright with that, but the difficulty is in the amount being paid. I mean, they're bikes, so they won't be insured for much will they? I've had a look at some bike insurers and they quote around £2.50 -£5 a month or £50pa. To many it's simply not worth it as the maximum even the most serious cyclists pay on their bikes is abut £700 a year.
