Cyclists

If you mean kids on a bike, I dunno.

If you mean grown adults well, most already have insurance. The ones who typically ride without a helmet, lights and do 3mph flaunting the laws of the road are....generallly going be relaxed at flaunting a few 'other' laws as well, hint, hint. I posted before that since cycling is experiencing an explosion in popularity, calls are being made to introduce bicycle insurance. I'd be alright with that, but the difficulty is in the amount being paid. I mean, they're bikes, so they won't be insured for much will they? I've had a look at some bike insurers and they quote around £2.50 -£5 a month or £50pa. To many it's simply not worth it as the maximum even the most serious cyclists pay on their bikes is abut £700 a year.

Some folk I know drive around in banger's (crap cars) worth a couple of hundred quid. The point I'm making is if you use the road then in this day and age they should have at least third party insurance (the same as the motorist) to protect other road users including pedestrians.

As I said, most already do have insurance. Making it compulsory won't change much, and it's not as if the issue hasnt been debated before in Parliament. They couldn't find any ways to make it workable so just leave it up to the individual to take responsibility. Cars are a different kettle of fish because they have the higher capacity to maim or kill. A pedestrian isn't a 'road user' so any incidents involving a cyclist on the pavement doesn't come under a road traffic accident. It'd be like asking for insurance because a person ran into you and knocked you down, but if a car ran you down on the pavement, it would be.

Why does the nice weather bring out groups of cyclists whibare obviously aware of their safety, helmets etc that don't give a toss about other road users riding 3 abreast down narrow (National speed limit) roads is a recipe for disaster just seen such a group nearly get taken out by a Stobarts wagon in Budorth then they gesticulate at him no way was he to blame.

Matter of interest how did he nearly take them out blamelessly?

Cyclists are allowed to overtake each other, though like any other road user some do it stupidly occasionally.
Highway code Rule 66 further advises that cyclists should "ride in single file on narrow or busy roads and when riding round bends", however the interpretation of this rule undoubtedly causes problems.
In this case these responsible club members were 3 abreast round a blind bend on a A road

Nothing wrong with 3 abreast for me... same a motorcyclist (i'm one) who command their position.. riding in the gutter is fatal..

Cyclists 3 abreast force drivers to overtake them properly.. in my experience however lots of drivers make the wrong decision to overtake.. especially before junctions... they should wait
