Two bailed after baby hurt in suspected XL bully attack

An eight-month-old baby sustained serious injuries after she was bitten by a dog on Wednesday.

One family member told the BBC the dog, named Hunter, had never shown any form of aggression and that the attack was out of character.

"For the dog to do what he did, for me, was totally out of the blue," he said.

Another family member said the baby and the dog were "like two peas in a pod".

She added that the mother of the injured baby was "devastated".

"It is shocking. You see and hear about it all the time, but you don't actually think it is going to happen to your own family," she said.

In November 2023, police seized an XL bully from Siskin Close following a report that its owner had been bitten on the finger, which caused a minor injury, the force previously revealed.

A police spokesperson said: "The owner was asked to voluntarily surrender the dog to officers for destruction, but declined to do so.

"There were no legal grounds for officers to retain the dog in the circumstances, but the owner was asked to agree to accept the conditions of a police order, which included keeping the dog secure and supervised."

If you apply that quote to getting cold, overpriced fries at McDonald’s, fair enough you’re a bit thick.
If that quote applies to owning a dangerous breed of dog that’s renowned for killing people and is now banned, well you should probably be asking where your brain was placed when they were handed out.

At dinner time I was driving past the edge of Dipperville city centre.
There was a "woman" probably in her late 40's but looked 60odd due to consuming half of Columbia up her nostrils....
3 yards behind her, was a HUGE Rottweiler UNMUZZLED......

It gets worse

It wasn't even on a lead.

Errmmm. A rottie isn't a banned breed.
Are we going down the route that any big dog is a menace?
I have a 10 stone English mastiff? She's frightened of her own shadow but you judgmental bastards assume because she's big she's a danger.

Well obviously the size of the dog is a factor in how dangerous it is, because if they do attack, bigger dogs do more damage. There's a reason we have no issue with people owning cats, even though they are far more likely to attack than any dog. There's also a reason why we don't allow people to own a panther or leopard, but do allow them to own a small domestic cat even though in terms of behaviour and temperament, they are arguably the same (or would be if you socialised them from birth).

It's always someone else's Dog isn't it? It's like me claiming I should be able to carry a gun because I am trustworthy and wont shoot anyone, it's the bloke across the road you have to be careful of.

To be fair, I don’t think anyone should be walking a dog off a lead in a city centre regardless of the breed, or in pretty much any public spaces. I’d have thought that owners of big dogs in particular should be even more conscious of that.

I wouldn’t do it with any of the breeds I’ve owned. All of them have been fully trained, were soft as shit and would recall on command. Doesn’t make it acceptable to me still to let them off the lead in areas there could be other people in that wouldn’t be appreciative of it.

From 1981, 105 people were killed by dogs at an average of about 2.5 per year. Most in a year was 6 with the least being 0.

In 2023 there were 16, with 8 by XL Bullies.

These deaths are, of course the tip of the iceberg, with many times more people hospitalised and thousands more attacked.

It can’t be that difficult to pass a law making it compulsory for all dogs to be muzzled and on a lead, whenever they’re out of the house.

Nope. She's an english mastiff x saint bernard. There is actually a picture of her and her mum when she was a puppy.
People are being judgemental on the size of a dog and assuming because it's big it's nasty.
I appreciate that the bigger the dog, the more damage they can do but people shouldn't instantly assume a big dog is a menace.
