How many times have we seen a game this year where we were in the ascendancy looking all well and good one nil up and then took our foot off the gas and conceded an equaliser late on. Or something to that effect. We should be going for the jugular that's what the best teams do, why win a game 2 or 3 nil when you can win it 5, 6 maybe even 7 nil all too often we've been in a great position and put out a turgid performance or a string of games where we just haven't turned up ... what we have to accept now as a club is that our manager and our owners envision us being something bigger than this country has seen before, not just finishing in the top few and winning a few cups but genuinely being a dominant force like the reals, bayerns, barças and that means bringing in a crop of upper echelon talents, we no longer need a squad of 11 with subs to fill the gaps as that isn't conducive to competing well on all fronts we need a squad of 18 world class footballers who will put an effort in, if alves coming in means walker (move permitting) sits on the bench for a bit then so be it because this is football and that is the nature of the game nothing is a given what top class footballer wouldn't relish the type of competition we have to offer, you want to be the best? Well go out there and you have a platform to be the best with the training facilities being second to none, no excuses, I fail to see why some people wouldn't want someone of alves' undoubted quality around our squad

Is this the deal that stops Spurs demanding silly money for Walker? They don't have us over a barrel as we have personnel in that position, if Walker isn't happy there stop banging the table for more money and let him go, no point keeping someone who could effect the dressing room.
Seeing as spuds finished above us it might not be a bad idea.

Let's wait and see I think we will use him for champions league mainly
I don't. I looked at his playing record when we were linked and found that that's what happened at Juve but turns out he had a fractured fibula which reduced his league appearances. He'll be desperate to play football and I don't see him walking away from Juve unless he thinks he's playing regularly for City.

I'm actually pretty giddy about this deal. I posted some pretty disparaging remarks about the scum signing Big Nose. Hands up, I was wrong. His winning mentality dragged a piss poor side up to 6th. They would have struggled to finish top half without him. I see Alves having a similar impact on us in big games where last season, some of our supposed big game players went missing. Alves and a fully fit Vincent will make a huge difference in games against title rivals.

I see him having a similar impact to Tevez, (golfing holiday notwithstanding), where his attitude and mentality really inspires the rest of the team.

Not to mention he's still, at 34, physically one of the best fullbacks in the world.

Can you imagine Walker's 2016/17 highlights by comparison and yet some think Walker is first choice.

The big thing here mate is building a "long term" foundation to the squad. No matter how talented Alves is, he wont be here in 1-2years and doesnt answer the long term questions we have for the position. I could be wrong but I would hope Walker would be first choice because we would be signing him as our long term starting FB.

Through our games v Barcelona I developed a strong sense that Alves as a bloke is rather a turd so if he signs for Chelski I won't have to reassess.

To be fair I don't think there is a definite 1st and 2nd choice. They'll have equal chance to impress but I would suspect that in the most important games Alves will play because he'll prove to be the more determined of the two.
