Agger is a great buy for 3-18 mil. a good footballing centre half rather than a stopper in Skrtel.


IMO it doesnt mean we will be choosing to drop lescott. if you look at pre season, maybe we could be looking at starting 3 centre halfs instead of a back 4, which is why Agger seems a better buy than Skrtel to me.

Funny how people see things. I think Lescott is all round a better player than Kompany, and Tevez is all round better than Aguero and Kolorov is better than Clichy and Yaya is better up front than Silva. Most would disagree but our squad is so good it's a question of degrees.

I'd love to get Agger in and allow Savic to go out on loan. He think he wild be worth 20m to us. It'd be a better 20m spent than spending it on RvP.

I'm a big Lescott fan but there's no way his distribution is anywhere near Kompanys level. What Joleon has learnt over the last year or so is to keep it really simple. He does that really well now. But there's a drive about Kompany and a dynamism to his passing which JL cannot match.

Has to be said though that Vince sometimes is a big fan of the boot it down the pitch to no-one....

Sometimes that's our best option when under pressure. Lescott improved dramatically and I really appreciate him, but he will boot it with no one within 20 yards of him and/or send it back to Hart (who I also wish distributed it a bit better.)

So Dave is absolutely correct.

Wasn't saying that Lescott's distribution was as good as Vince's, I'm not stupid.

How you can say the "best option" is to lump it to no-one beggars belief.....

lescott is one of the world best defenders in the box , imo.

but his passing is under average , he is no confident on the ball , and he is too slow so isn't a good defender when our defensive line is high on the pitch

I have to disagree. Lescott is a good passer for a CB, better than Kompany in my opinion.

I'm a big Lescott fan but there's no way his distribution is anywhere near Kompanys level. What Joleon has learnt over the last year or so is to keep it really simple. He does that really well now. But there's a drive about Kompany and a dynamism to his passing which JL cannot match.

Majority of Kompany's long passes roll harmlessly out of play, he isn't particularly good at passing. He is a great dribbler and much more composed on the ball than Lescott but Lescott keeps it simple and when he does play it long he tends to find the target more often than Vince does.

To be fair whilst I don't neccesarily agree Lescott is a better player...I thought on the whole he had a better 11/12 season than Vinny

My main problem with Lescott is that when he is playing without Kompany he doesn't stand up and take the responsability Kompany leaves, he leaves it to the replacement center half which is not good enough when you consider Lescott is the main CB without Kompany. I say this as when we played the dippers in the Carling cup Savic had an absolute nightmare and I am not blaming Lescott for Savic being poor but he certainly didn't help him that night. Lescott was allowing Savic to challenge Carroll for headers when Lescott should of been the one taking the responsability to challenge Carroll, that is what Kompany would have done. All in all I think Lescott is a quality player when playing with quality along side him but I would be really worried if Kompany got injured for a large amount of time as I dont think that Lescott can fill Kompany's boots.

And we won't be able to realistically sign anyone who can. Lescott is just as good as Agger, if not more reliable.

I think that's a fair comment for me tbh, Joleon's an exceptional 'wingman' for want of a better term but not one who naturally grabs a game by the scruff of the neck in the way Vinnie does, as a seasoned pro I would expect him to step up on the occasions it's required.

Lescott wasn't actually worth £22m though. And Agger isn't worth over £20m.

I think Agger is a very good defender, but realistically if we sign him then one of either him or JL are going to be very upset as they'll be spending an awful lot of time on the bench. I would prefer we signed someone younger who'd be happy to be a squad player. Lescott had a very good season last season and deserves his place alongside Vinny at the start of next season.
