Daniel Sturridge - FACTS

I wonder what Jim Cassell thinks when fans boo young players that he's spent years nurturing through the acadamey.

Don't even get me started on the Sturridge abuse. I'm off for dinner now and so will end the night by booing all of you that boo.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Sorry, but since he's broken into the first team, he comes across as an arrogant, greedy shit. I've said before that I prefer Caicedo up front, and I still believe so, and that's not just because of Sturridge's performance today.

Since he was 16, he's had a very easy footballing life. He's scored a lot of goals in the reserves and it's easy to see why he does. He was forced into the first team by our fans in 2006-07 season when Pearce threw him on against Reading/Blackburn at home. He's constantly found himself as a fan favourite at just 17-18 years old because he's scored in academy/reserve games and people who go and watch him play think they know better than our previous managers! He comes across as big headed, he comes across as big headed on the pitch, then comes across as a bit of a twat off it by not signing a deal when he's had thousands of fans believing in him since day 1!

With regards to his play on the field, he's got talent, but I see no more, if not less in him than I have done in other strikers that have come from the academy. I just find it hard to understand why there is such a buzz around this player, why people demand he plays, why they are adament that he is a much better player than Caicedo/Evans, and why we should give him £65k or whatever it is a week!

Every player is due a bad performance, and today was a bad game for Daniel. Loads of fans were demanding him to play ahead of Caicedo and when he came on, they were slating the shit out of him, fickle eh? Them same fans boo when Fernandes comes on, those fans, IMHO, know nothing!

For me, the jury is still out on Sturridge, as to whether he is actually a world beater as people have made out. One thing I've decided, is he's a greedy shit and his decision to ignore the fans at the tunnel at the end of the game didn't impress me either, especially after he refused to celebrate. Grow up! Players like Fernandes, Vassell, Caicedo and Benjani get the shit ripped out of them every week by some of our idiot fans, have they ever refused to celebrate a goal and ignore the 40,000+ people that come to watch them? He's got so much protection around him from the people who think they know best, does he thinks he's not allowed to be criticised?

The number of fuck ups from him was unreal today, and all I kept thinking was, if that was Caicedo, 'fans' would be screaming at Hughes for him to taken off immediately and for him never to wear the shirt again.

If Sturridge wants to make it at the club, he has to prove he's good enough first! Asking for large wages after playing very little over 3 years and making very little affect doesn't help his case. His attitude isn't right and is something that needs sorting and I have a feeling that he will prefer to move on to another club at the end of the year who will offer him the money he wants because he strikes me as a player who doesn't want to battle it out and prove doubters, like myself, wrong. Don't get me wrong, I don't want him to go and I want him to succeed at City, but in terms of his attitude, he's one of the players I wouldn't want anywhere near my team.

Sorry for the rant!

Ok lets deal in hard base facts here, not some rumours you have heard in the news of the world or by your mate who knows the cleaner at Carrington who swears that Sturridge is "demanding" 60k, 75k, 95k, 660k a week. Lets have a look at the facts that can be backed up as stone cold TRUTH and the most important thing, what he does on the pitch.

Here we have a talented young striker who has been in and out of the side all season, he has been fucked over by injuries and been fucked over by Mark Hughes because he continues to play one man upfront which is hard enough but he has also played Ched Evans and Big Phil ahead of him.

Here we have a 19 year old kid who has only started 8 games, his total minutes are 90, 90, 90, 90, 90, 77, 70, 62, 60, 48, 33, 32, 26, 21, 19, 14, 14, 14, 9, 7, 6, 6, 6, 5, 2. In total he has played 981 mins. That's just under 11 full games.

In them games he has played he has scored 4 goals and assisted 5 goals, being involved in 9 goals. So that's being involved in more or less a goal every game he played in total minutes.

Not bad for a fucking 19 year old who has had injury problems and been fucked about, not to mention playing upfront on his own when probably only a dozen players in the world of football are half decent at it.

Yes he's cocky and arrogant but he has a right to be, he is a good player and he beleives in himself. I love my players to be cocky and arrogant, it's a certain side i love about players but only if they can back it up and Danny can do that when given a chance.

So if you want to ruin yet another promising kid because of some stories going round that no one has a fucking clue about then do so if it makes you feel better.

The treatment of him today by the fans was nothing short of disgraceful, yes he had a poor game but he was a nervous wreck because of 40,000 clueless twats getting on his back at the very first sign of a mistake, a mistake that every player makes in the world.

I'm glad he didn't celebrate the goal because neither would i with what went on.

You all tried to do it with Stephen Ireland, you ruined that kids confidence and self belief and you have all been made to look like silly twats over him. Get off Sturridge's back, you don't realise what a good young player we have on our hands, you only have to look at the stats and the circumstances this season to prove it.
Brilliant post.

I'm happy to hold my hands up and say that I was critical of Danny today, but I wouldnt go as far as booing the lad on the pitch - its uncalled for.

I honestly didnt think he had the best of games today, and hasnt played particlary well recently. Whilst I appreciate he needs a run in the team and that he'll become a great stiker, I dont see the problem with being critical of his performance.

I'd be critical of Shay, Robbie, Elano, Petrov, Stevie etc etc if they were'nt playing well but it still doesnt mean I dont support the team out on the pitch, or sat on the bench.

Danny has bagged goals in the youth/reserve team and expectations are going to be big, but he's gotta take criticism/chanting on the chin if he wants to make it big time. He'll come good, but he needs to be part of the team alot more rather than try to go it alone.

I wasn't at the game today, so what happened with Sturridge? Was he booed Ashley Cole style whenever he touched the ball?

He wasn't booed at all. He recieved a portion of the criticism that players like Caicedo/Fernandes/Vassell take week in week out no matter how well they are playing. Suddenly however, we're not allowed to criticise Sturridge for playing badly because he's only 19.

Sturridge then refused to celebrate when he scored and refused to acknowledge the fans when he left the field. He needs to grow a pair in my opinion!

Nah, he messed up a few touches and misplaced passes. Then was booed. Then there were hisses every time he lost the ball, hence his confidence was shot. So he had more bad touches. Then more hisses and boos. Then he had a bad shot when Petrov put him through, more hisses. He broke with the ball and put through Ireland with a late pass, he was booed again. Then he scored the goal with a scruffy shot, didn't even celebrate he was that let down by his OWN fans he didn't feel happy at all. Terrible. Felt awful for the lad.

I've always rated Sturridge, but then again i rated BWP until he got in the first team. BWP's problem was he never quite got the knack of instant control of the ball that's needed in the big league. Top class defenders get a boot in/close down a lot quicker than they do in the reserves/lower leagues and Studge seems to be having the same problem IMO. What the kid needs to do is sign his new contract, learn off the forwards we already have here and the ones who come in, bide his time and develop into a world class player, rather than sit in chelsea's reserves. The kid's got a lot of talent, but he's not quite as good as he thinks he is yet.
I'm sorry but to compare BWP and Sturridge is laughable.
