Darren Bent £18m to Villa

The fee is a bit excessive, granted. I'd say £12-15m would actualy be reasonable though, in the English January market. The guy scores goals.

Sure you could get 3 or 4 players, but when you're scrapping against relegation and you decide you need a goalscorer, to guarantee you sign a striker who can do the business, it's going to be £10m+.

From a footballing point of view it seems very odd - Sunderland in the top 6 v Villa in a Relegation fight? He's also played his best football at Sunderland and salvaged his reputation in doing so.

From a personal point of view you can sort of understanding it though.
He's a London boy and wants to be close to home / family, he's not the first and wont be the last player to let geography dictate where he plays.

He is not a london boy, he grew up 5 miles from me and i didnt live in london until i was 23 but still in terms of going back to Huntingdon it will be alot closer
Born in Tooting, South London, Bent is of Jamaican descent and his father in law Jake Nicholls was a player in the youth systems of Wimbledon and Brentford.[3][4] He moved to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire at the age of 10 and played for the Godmanchester Rovers youth system.[4][5] As a youngster, Bent was a supporter of Arsenal, and used to have a season ticket at Highbury.[6] He was handed a formal warning by police in June 2004 after he was alleged to have shot a 12 year old with a pellet gun.[7] Bent refrains from drinking alcohol.[8]

He had best not be playing on Saturday.

That way we can avoid him altogether the rest of this season :D

I thought Lerner wanted to cut back on spending and oneil said he couldn't take the club forward without spending so he left! Really baffling me this transfer
It is baffling, from the players point of view more than the club in my opinion. Also, as a Villa fan it would make me want to cry as it means Houllier is staying for some time if his chairman is giving him £24m to spend on one player. Villa fans can't stand Houllier, so whether they're getting a good player or not, it means the manager they haven't taken to is there for the foreseeable future. Bummer!
When we beat on Saturday, I can see the fans really turning on him then, cos they play far to open and that plays right into are hands! I can see a fulham or west ham mauling coming there way

he may have been born in london but he went to my school in huntingdon so he definately grew up there, either way this is one of the most surprising transfers i have seen in a while

I actually can't emphasise enough how bad I think Villa are, and I really hope Mancini just lets our players at them from start to finish. How good would it be, live on cameras, to hammer a club like Villa away something like 4-0?

Who is this knob on sky sports? Dzeko moved to Chelsea and James Milner cost us £29 million.
