Darren Fletcher - What is the point of him?

Fletcher is a good but not great player. The fact that he is now so crucial to the rags shows that they are in decline IMO, previously he wouldn't have been missed that much.

IMO Fletcher is one of the most improved players in English football over the last 2-3 years, like a few have said on here, he ran the show in the last 2 derbys. The guy is hard as fuck, knows how tackle, has got a decent pass & pops up with a few goals a season.

I can see him progressing into the next Keane.

To start there are one or two united players That I respect and over the years would of liked to play for us and there has been a number who I really do hate
But this little twat is the one I hate most! De Jong is so much more gritty than Fletcher. You have a season ticket so I'm sure you've seen De Jong mark out their main threats out the game with ease. Still think you're overrating how far apart De Jong and Fletcher are, De Jong is our best midfielder IMO so he probably isn't the best comparison, and no he hasn't scored yet, but I dont't care he still does his job brilliantly, our team hopefully will gel better than Utd's in the coming years, but Fletcher is not a poor player, no matter how you put it.

Darren Fletcher is a big reason why United won the league and got to the CL final last year as he was probably there most consistent performer. And I include Tranny and Rooney in that.

He marked Ireland out of the game at OT last season and this season. Oh and he scored two goals against us.

That's only because he's relativley tall and we're piss-poor at stopping crosses/set pieces.

He's fucking useless and he's got nothing on De Jong/Ireland/Barry.

Actually when you put it like that, you're right. Later on in the thread you refered to him as a negative player, remind me exactly what De Jong is? Or what Barry has done since Villa fans boo'd him?

So you admit De Jong IS better? Other than him, Barry has been class for us so far this season, he's been quite poor in the last two/three games but I guess he's adjusting so I'll give him the benifit of the doubt.
Okay, so Fletcher is a tall workhorse that gets away with hard tackles. But there are so many better players than him out there, it's not like he's irreplaceable should he get a life threatning injury or something, he's just a pretty standard Bolton-type player. He's not THAT bad but he's not too great is what I'm getting at.
