David Bowie RIP.

Do people really get upset at celebritys dying? Said RIP like his music but I'm not devastated, I must be emotionally void!
Maybe, maybe not. But to describe Bowie as a 'celebrity' certainly shows that you are culturally void. Thats not having a pop at you by the way, just an observation. Celebrity is possibly the most limited and inaccurate term to describe him.

I don't usually get upset about the passing of a celebrity and I wouldn't describe myself as devastated but I am definitely feeling emotional over Bowie's passing: this is not just any old celeb. Bowie's rise coincided with the time that my love of music developed. He was the soundtrack of my early teens in the days when I owned about 20 albums - as opposed to a 100 times that - almost half of them were Bowie albums. I nearly wore the vinyl out on the four albums that comprise the run from MWSTW to Aladdin Sane. I have been a fan for 40 odd years so hard not to feel something.

Fair enough fellas, can see why. I guess I'm not as passionate about music as I thought. What I always think is the music lives on anyway and that will never disappear.

Sounds like we may be of an age OB1! That was a key period for me ...that said Bowie kept coming up with more superb stuff.. For me, later albums that stand out are Station to Station and Let's Dance
I am gonna sit down and listen to Black Star now with new insight....

Not had chance to get Black Star yet but was already looking forward to doing so.

Said early on in this thread that I bought a ticket at the weekend to see Earl Slick and Bernard Fowler in April when they are performing the whole of Station to Station plus other Bowie, Stones and Lennon hits.

Rock God and a wonderful artist.

Saw him only once at Maine Road at the Greatest Hits tour ( the one after the Gass Spider Tour which bombed I seem to recall).
Knew every word to every song.

Never forget taking my little girl to a kids party at Daisy and Tom's around 14 years ago. At the end of the party , the kids got to ride on a fantastic musical carousel. As we watched the kids go round , I looked behind me and The Man himself was stood looking through the shop window , on his own , smiling as the kids whizzed by.

Also , got to see his scrawlings back stage at the Hammersmith Odeon (now the Apollo ) and stood on the very stage where Ziggy was finally laid to rest.

RIP
