David Silva - 2016/17 performances

I'm not sure Peps rigid system suits him tbh and as a result he's become a bit fair-weather. Silva at his best is roaming the entire final 3rd looking for pockets of space, dictating the play and looking for a hole to slip a pass in but under Pep he is stuck in the middle of the pitch where it's easy to nullify him

Have to agree. Rubbish today again. Can't remember the last time he bossed a game like he used to. Or even the last time he made a decent through ball, sadly. He retains possession well but is creating fuck all for us at the moment.

And by the way, his corners are STILL absolutely terrible. No change there.

Hampering us right now.

Slows attacks down and constantly losing the ball whilst trying to find the perfect pass.

Age? A shame because Silva of 5 years ago would be amazing in this team.

As previously stated its KDB or Silva for me,having both on the pitch limits both.

I'd go with KDB as his energy and industry is greater and he looks far more suited to what Pep demands.

It was my opinion last season and it still is mate.

Having watched him very closely for both us and Spain this season I can only conclude that there is nothing wrong with his fitness, speed of thought or passing ability. I can only assume that when we struggle as a team, he finds it harder as there is less running off the ball. We all know he can pick a pass but we are lacking movement ahead of him for some reason. Granted he looked poor today and I can't remember a game where he gave the ball away so much. We need to find the right blend again - like before KDB did his hamstring. I also can't believe some of the posts on here saying he's finished as only six games ago he was running the show. That said, something isn't quite right and perhaps he is trying too hard.

Kidding himself, kidding plenty of Blues too.

He ain't kidding me, though.

Has become the world's greatest hide and seek champion in the last 12 months.

Dave has been a pleasure to watch but he's peaked and we need to sell next summer, it will be our best chance for some money from Spain.

Doesn't have the grit or the fitness to push beyond his own perceived limits, which isn't unusual for players with great technique, when the rosier parts of the game come all too easy.

Pep's standards were supposed to expose the limitations in our cannon fodder but the bigger established stars are also coming up short.

Come off it,he was great when we were winning now we aren't he gets the blame,no-one is playing well at the moment,he can't do everything

My favourite since the revolution but our Dave is now like a Reserva Rioja that sadly has been open for perhaps half a day too long. Still a place for him if what is around him is top drawer like the Spanish National team.

Spot on mate. When we talk about players not having the mentality to grind out wins when we go behind, he is top of the list unfortunately. If things aren't going well it's a shrug of the shoulders and a tactical retreat from our Dave. Another one I feared for under Guardiola and my fears are being realised. I think he's another who will be history next season.

What we must not do is what we did with Yaya and thats turn down still serious money and hang on for sentimentality sake.

I said last year KdB was his natural replacement and i still believe that. The 2 cant play together imo and a balance has to be found.

Silva was far from perfect today, there were many loose passes and poor touches but one thing I wouldn't label at him is that he hides! In my opinion he shows for the ball more than any other player in our side.

That was was Slur Alex was very good at. He knew exactly when to sell players for decent money. Agree we should cash in. Him, KDB and Gundogan just doesn't work.

Some absolute junk on this thread, and that's saying something given it's bluemoon and a matchday with a negative result.
I know.

However, just over 2.5 yrs left on his contract. A business decision has to be made. Not another Yaya circus, please.

I understand what you're saying but personally, 'cashing in' on one of the best players the club has ever had, just in order to make a few quid that we don't need, I find that appalling and disrespectful.

He should be allowed to finish his contract and move back home to Gran Canaria to enjoy his retirement. He owes the club, and us fans, absolutely nothing.

FFP dictates now that players have to leave to free up the wage bill for another as well as squad quota's.

You cant hang on to players anymore that you just dont want or need anymore.

Thats not to say Pep will get rid, just my take on it.

And why would we owe him 2 and a half years? as time goes on he'll only become less suited to our team and style of play.
