I think another thing that seems to go a miss when debating Silva, is his strength and turn of pace. Over 5-10 yards he has the ability to get away from his marker and the strength to hold them off.

Yes, he's a tough little fucker on the quiet. And that 270-360 degree turn he uses to create space is just special. I've never seen the likes of it before.
That turn is special.

He'll never be robust enough for English football though, eh...... ;)

Seriously though, probably my favourite ever City player now in terms of the sheer joy of watching him in possession. We are truly blessed. He could cushion a plague infected body catapulted over a castle wall if he had to. His endless repertoire of perfect touches is so vast, that people tend to accept them as the norm - the right footed, body opening, first touch in the build up to Jovetic's goal being a case in point. Exquisite yet barely noticed

He is for me, too.

The other thing he does is always, always, always keeps his body between the opponent and the ball. That's what that turn is all about. That's why he is hardly ever tackled.

That's definitely one of his best attributes. He always controls the ball in such a manner that allows his next step to put himself between the ball and the opponent, thereby forcing the opponent to foul him if he wants to get to the ball. His balance is superb.

Don't forget the pullback for Nasri's goal. My mate and I were laughing in the stand that he actually "stunned" the ball like a snooker player, so that the precise second it reached Nasri it stopped dead, ensuring Nasri just potted it in the centre of the goal without breaking even a quarter of a stride.

I love Dave.....

He is the best I have had the pleasure of seeing in sky blue shirt....

One thing I still think he can improve on is his goal tally. For a man of his skill it is too low. Deffo should be getting 10+ league goals per season.

Like many truly great players, he makes it look so simple. He often screens the ball by simply letting it roll on past the point where he could have controlled it to the point where his body is between the ball and the opponent. He let's the ball do the work for him.

Some strange posts in this thread. Anyway, this is how I see it.

Silva can be replaced. But unless he was replaced by Iniesta you'd have a different Manchester City. Could be better, could be worse. Who knows. But really Iniesta is the only player with a similar game and ideology on the pitch in world football.

The Ribery comparison I find odd. Explosive and deadly player, who can do many of the things Silva can and vice versa, but so many differences between them to make the comparison worthless. Very different players.

But yeah all that aside, Silva is genius. Its the intelligence that really impresses me. Often as football fans we see things before they happen as we have that vantage point that opens up the field of play. With Silva he does things you don't even see from that vantage point. Very few players have that for me. Its a very small band of players. Maybe 5 or 6. Silva belongs in there.

Agree with this. Very similar to Iniesta. And, as his game isnt based on pace, he will be effective for a long time to come. Great having Nasri as well, not as great with the ball but is a better finisher. Silva's finishing lets him down sometimes. Should score so much more for the fucking GENIUS that he is.

Ribéry can do everything that Silva can on the left, and more. What are these "so many" differences?

Edit: Spelling
