David Villa to NYCFC

So basically Manchester City are putting the money to take away Lampard from Chelsea and park him at New York City...

Spanish international David Villa will train with Manchester City up until February ahead of his move to New York City.

According to Spanish press, Spain's all-time leading goalscorer David Villa will become the first major signing of new Major League Soccer side New York City FC, agreeing in principle to a three-year deal.

The Citizens, as they will be known, have been installed a new team and will begin in the 2015 season.

Villa, 32, who is waiting on Vicente del Bosque's decision regarding a World Cup place, will join Manchester City to train with them until February, according to El Pais.

The former Barcelona Champions League winner will not sign a short term deal, therefore he would not be allowed to represent City in the competitive matches.

He is expected to earn £2.8m per season in the Big Apple and could be joined by former Barca team-mate and Spanish midfielder Xavi Hernandez, who has also been linked with a move to the new franchise.

Does this mean we might see David Villa in a City shirt a after all (loan to us in MLS season breaks)?

No
There is actually a real possibility that MLS will be moving to a winter schedule in the next couple years. It might get voted down though.

I wouldn't bet on that. Moving to winter means going head to head with the NFL, NHL and NBA, along with NCAA football and basketball. The main reason for MLS' recent success is they have the summer all to themselves. No other competition. TV rights would be a real issue. With the choice between NCAA football, NFL, Basketball etc.. and MLS. MLS with lose 100 times out of 100. Best to stay where it is and grow. Maybe 10 years from now things will be different.

I actually think it is a real possibility that he could come to City on loan. Given the rumors of Negredo going we might short on strikers. He could be a good 4th striker option. He wouldn't get upset at lack of playing time because he's on loan and would play in the odd game. We also wouldn't have to list him on the CL list. He's 32 so we (City) didn't have to buy a player on the downside of his career, but he still would be helpful to us and then he could go on to the MLS. Even if it's not this upcoming year, he can still train with our boys in his off season and maybe sneak in a game or two. I can see this as something we plan on doing with other players out of their prime in transitioning them to the MLS.

I like your thinking mate.

Any chance of a loan? Still that good at 32.

An exceptional piece of business from Reyna, Feran, and Txiki.

He is without question the third biggest star to ever make the move, and in my opinion the second best footballer to Thierry Henry (I was never of the "Beckham is a god" sort).

There are reports that if Lampard is signed he would actually be below the "designated player" wages threshold so they could still seek two other exceptions to the capped salary structure.
