David White

Saw him make his debut VS West Ham, left back did not know what had hit him, put plenty of crosses in but hit them so hard usually went over everyone. Loved watching though so fast and bullet shot, he scored the 10th goal against Huddersfield the way he scored that goal some him up .

He was shite? Really???? He scored 1s 2s 3s even a Four. If a player did any of that for us on Sat at his favourite ground we would be celebrating it like we do. He was brilliant. Not had a player like him since until maybe now with Navas. Did brilliant also as a converted centre forward and whoever said everyone used to love him aint right either. He got stick and never ever hid from his duties and outpacing left backs and blasting accross the keeper was a joy to behold. Imagine Antonio Valencia against an U13 girl left back and you have Whitey. Awesome.

Spot on as usual my friend. In a struggling team in the second division in his first full season he scored 16 goals.
He scored another 8 in the promotion season and set up the goal that got us promoted.
In our first season back, when we stared relegation in the face for a long time, he scored 11 goals and set up 3 of the goals in the 5-1 derby.
The next year, another 17 goals including a brace in the 3-3 derby at Maine Road (he was denied a hattrick by the underside of the crossbar) and his 4 goal haul at Villa.
In 1991/92, he was our top scorer with 21 goals. He won the penalty at Old Trafford in a 1-1 draw.
In his last full season he was our top scorer with 19 goals.

For a local player who cost us fuck all and scored 78 goals and was traded in for a fine player like Rocastle, he doesn't half get some stick. If we had one now we'd be shouting about him from the rooftops.

To put his record into perspective, compare the following records;

David White - 285 appearances - 78 goals
Shaun Wright Phillips - 217 appearances - 35 goals

I rest my case.

I think he and his family run a skip hire business nowadays.

I'm pretty sure its the above business,a slightly bigger operation.....

Isn't it in Stretford or Trafford?

"There's a lot of scrap in Stretford," he once said.

At least, I think he said "scrap".

As I remember it, Whitey did miss a chance in the first minute of his England debut. He broke away and had a one on one with the keeper who narrowed the angle superbly. What it needed was a square ball for Shearer to tap home. Unfortunately, Shearer couldn't keep up with him and Shearer was no slouch.

2 top posts. Anyone knocking Whitey has either forgot where we were at the time or never saw him play. Messi he wasn't. A quick , goalscoring, versatile wide/ frontman he was.

Not so sure the scoring comparison with SWP is a valid one - Whitey did play as a central striker feeding off Quinny's flicks for 2 or 3 seasons under the Reid/Ellis regime so had more opportunities to score. He wasn't technically brilliant but had a good powerful shot and did anyone mention he was fucking fast?

I thought he was unfairly treated by the media after his England game (nothing new there) - the first chance he had was well saved by the keeper and the second was blocked IIRC. Other than that I thought he had a decent game and deserved another chance.

IIRC, it was Kendall who started playing him up front with Quinn.
