De Bruyne?

Does that opinion come from the 18 minutes Delph has played. For us

That opinion comes from a few seasons of watching Delph in an Aston Villa shirt. How many fans on here would have batted an eyelid at Delph if we wasn't even linked with him?

I don't think there would be many, whatsoever. As soon as a player joins us, everyone seems to think they are the next Graham Souness or Patrick Vieira. This forum is more and more like RAWK everyday and we all tend to laugh at them.

Infact... if Delph had signed for Liverpool, most fans on this forum would be laughing at the signing, absolute certainty.

It's hard to know what is the right time for deals - we aren't privvy to all the factors. It's just to simple to say 'should have been done by now'.
I'm sure if City knew without a doubt who we wanted and could secure him, we'd do so (if it was down to us), but sometimes, it's just not down to us, and sometimes it actually might be us hedging our bets too. We don't KNOW who else City are talking with (*cough* if they were allowed to). For all we know KdB might be a great buy, but we might also be talking to Bale (just a silly example). The point is, without all the facts (which we'll never get) - we can only assume there's a valid reason why things are taking so long.

One of those valid reasons MAY be that we aren't very good at securing deals - unlikely, but possible.
Another reason might be that Wolfsburg don't NEED the money, so they can afford to hold out for as long as possible in the hope of getting more money. We too could play hardball and threaten to walk away - but once we make that threat, we have to be prepared to carry it out. We probably aren't.

He was considered bang average by most City fans. Then when he comes to us, he's got huge potential. Then he changes his mind and returns to bang average / bottler, and now he's got huge potential again.
It's the same with most clubs fans. I think he's another water carrier who is a decent squad player for 8m, and his HG status counts heavily in his favour. He's not Pirlo though.

We have signed him I will base a judgement on how he plays in a blue shirt along side our players

Honestly, the simple fact is... if Delph had signed for Rags or Liverpool, people on this forum would be pissing themselves laughing. Infact if City had signed Schweinsteiger and Rags had signed Delph, we would have created a song about it on this forum as we did with Phil Jones and Aguero.

Football fans are UNBELIEVABLY fickle sometimes, never ever learn at all.

The stupid ones might, but most City fans I know are very happy with signing Delph & were unhappy when it appeared the deal had fallen through.

Great signing imo.

But what our club needs to grasp is, if we don't get Pogba, it isn't the end of the world. I have never thought for one second Pogba was coming to City anyway, so in my eyes we should have had a plan B ready incase we end up getting rejected. I just don't see a plan B from us, we would be better off buying another CM in the ilk of Xhaka, Naingollan, Witsel, Aranguiz than not buying another CM at all. If we ain't getting Pogba this season, why not try next season and offload Fernando to free up a space? We need to think outside the box and not just on the fantasy signings. Fantasy footballers don't always win you things, its players that can come in and compliment the squad perfectly giving your team the right balance.

Spot on, everyone can see we need some more legs in midfield, especially if we play Yaya in there, so if Pogba isn't coming we need to sign the plan B sharpish or I think we will have another season like last year. At the moment it seems like the club are thinking it's Pogba or bust. Personally I think there are loads of midfielders out there who could do a job for us, we don't need them to be world beaters, just decent footballers who can press the opposition and protect the back four.

fuck sake of course he's not Pirlo. Don't understand people like you who just said is a decent squad player and HG status is key for why we bought him BUT he's not one of the best midfielders to play the game? who is available? who is available and falls into your category of 'Pirlo-esque'

I will as well, but if he is anywhere near as good as Barry was for us, then we will have acquired a good player. Barry was a very underrated signing for us which is massively under appreciated by many.

i might be the only one to share this opinion but i thought barry again was a 'good' player for us but sometimes he was a liability and played like fernando in some games. My final straw with him was the fa cup final vs wigan when he can't pass a ball sideways sometimes that season especially.

He is just stating the way our fans go overboard about Delph as soon as he has signed for us when no one really gave a flying one about him when he was at Villa.

Off topic sorry but I'd suggest we wait to see what Delph can do, he was awesome (admittedly in a lower league) at Leeds wasn't he? He did Ok at Villa and the fans loved him

He'll do just fine at City I'm sure
