I wouldnt say good luck to him but there is nothing we can do about it. It could possibly restrict us in the transfer market in the short term. Thats just the game nowadays, players hold most of the cards when they come to the end of their contracts.

It says he is happy here and he doesn't want to talk about contracts. It doesn't say i am staying or i will stay or anything like that really.

We offered him a contract of how ever many years. He has fulfilled that contract, he is under no obligation to extend it without being in full view of the facts. He probably has one big contract left in his career and he has to make the decision as to whether he is part of a big picture at City and not being 1st choice in his position or to move elsewhere where he may get more of a start and not as good a chance at picking up trophies (hopefully).

I mean to the fans in the opinion. Some players can do no wrong and some players do the tiniest little thing and get 82 page threads on their left foot being slightly bigger than the right and people baying for their blood. NDJ due to his "hardman" rep and give all for the team is in the untouchable to criticism group

Mercenary my arse - what top professional footballer isn't?
How anyone can have a pop at De Jong - the guy who gives 100% all of the time - is beyond me.
As to him being limited, he is what he is, and when he came in, he was ideal for us imho. He's looked more limited as we have progressed, but, we wouldn't have progressed without him. He's always divided opinion on here but, I bet there are few of the more long established players more popular than him amongst city's fan base.
He's done the business for us as he was contracted to do, and, if it's getting near the time when he feels he must move on, good luck to him - why shouldn't it be on his own terms?

Why not? He's doing, (if that is what he is doing), what any man would do in his position.
