Again will no-one reply to this question:

Everyone is making the argument that De Jong is a guaranteed starter due to how much Mancini has selected him.

What about Barry then - he played more minutes than De Jong (at lest in the PL) - does that make him indispensable?
FFS Barry is slow, awkward, cumbersome and well slow again!! Just not upto the job at the level were now at. Hurry up someone and employ Mark Hughes so he can take some of his dross with him!!

It does amuse me that people moan about negative tactics but ask them who their favourite player is and some will say De Jong, our most negative player.

Our negative aura stems only from having two uncreative midfielders side by side - De Jong and Barry.

But De Jong is the best Makelele style player since Makelele himself. Makelele did as little going forward as De Jong and was a key part of England's finest club side just as De Jong is a key part of our side. Replacing Barry with a Modric or whoever would instantly transform us. It seems like simple logic to me - De Jong breaks up play as he does better than almost anyone in the world, gives the ball to Modric (or alternative, using Modric as the example) who then does something with the ball that Barry is unable to. The difference would be staggering.

The 5-0 thrashing of Sunderland had an extra forward (Tevez/Balotelli/Silva/Johnson w/ Yaya and Nigel behind) instead of Barry. Barry should be retained as a backup to De Jong and would still get 20+ games a season but just doesn't have the same effect as De Jong as 99 out of every 100 City fan can see.

i really like dejong , but this dont stop me to made a question...

look sabster i hate the negative tactics employed by mancini at times but de jong is absolutly vital to us and should always be in the side. we always need someone to get stuck in and brak up the opponants play, nige is that man.

But do you not think we can do better than that?

No other top side in world football plays a man as limited as De Jong.

If he could break the play up aswell as Makalele or even Mascherano I would have no problem, but IMO he gets nowhere near.

For me De Jong was our most important player last season along with Silva. It isn't just his tackling and aggression but the way he plays allows the rest of the team to go out and express themsleves. We miss him so much when he isn't playing, I can't see us selling him but if I'm wrong I will be absolutely devastated.

Not only that, he loves playing football and he loves mcfc and he gets on brilliantly with the fans and has a right laugh with them. Personally thing it's a toss up between him and vinny for the best value for money signing

The emboldened words sum up why he is overrated.

No doubt he is an excellent person and loves to be here, but we shouldn't let that cloud our perception of his footballing ability.

Sabster, you are an utter joke. It's not the fact you have a different opinion, or don't rate de jong as highly as others, but that you follow every de jong thread around like a bad smell, waiting to leave ur negative comment. You know he is hugely well liked, so clearly only do it to get a reaction, otherwise you wouldn't bother. The fact that you comment on every de jong thread is almost as embarrassing as your football knowledge, which is obviously pretty woeful.

De Jong is almost as slow. FFS.

One thing I can absolutely guarantee is that De Jong performed identically to Barry, he would be lauded in exactly the same way as he is now.
