FFS Barry is slow, awkward, cumbersome and well slow again!! Just not upto the job at the level were now at. Hurry up someone and employ Mark Hughes so he can take some of his dross with him!!

How did Barry get into this discussion? Barry is a very average footballer, who had some talent as a minor goalscoring midfield player with a very average Villa team. Then, when we bought him, he lost the only yard of pace he ever had, and is now useless. He doesn't do anything very well at all. He has no 1st touch, is totally immobile, no vision, can't head, has no dicipline, no leadership quality and isnt that good at tackling -giving away needless freekicks in and around the box.
He makes the rest of the team jittery because they cant trust him which is part of the reason Kolarov appears to be so crap too.

NDJ on the other hand is a world class holding midfield player...............end of.

Shit post and honestly one of the worst I've ever read on here

I agree. I don't think there's much between the two in all honesty, the comparison is a valid one.

Barry's the more complete player, while De Jong has more weaknesses but his strengths are such that the balance is somewhat addressed.

De Jong has a role at City for years to come, not guaranteed by any means, but he'll be around for a good few years yet.

Barry's days, on the other hand, are numbered.

I try to be level-headed and say "to each his own" regarding personnel opinions, but I'll be damned if this isn't a hard thread to read. No clue how you can't put Nigel in both the "best defensive midfielders currently playing" category, as well as "top four performers at our club last season".

He's everywhere for us. He's our last line of defense (aside from the actual line of defenders, and then of course the keeper too). I get the same comfort seeing Nigel's name on the teamsheet as I do hearing Morgan Freeman's voice in the Shawshank Redemption.

Can't imagine anyone would want to replace him or play without him, but hell... to each his own.

De Jong is almost as slow. FFS.

One thing I can absolutely guarantee is that De Jong performed identically to Barry, he would be lauded in exactly the same way as he is now.

does that make any sense?

Yes

He is no better than Huddlestone, Lucas Leiva or Song.

Wait... what?

De Jong was easily the best player in that position last season.

This had me laughing for a good few minutes, especially the guy on the left hahahahaha.
In the eyes of City fans, yes!

Mancini don't need another DM to stand next to Fellaini to defend bomb from the air. A complete package DM like Fellaini will allow much more dynamism to the City's midfield imo.

Stats aren't everything but last season:

WITH NDJ in the Prem: W20 D6 L6 = 66pts at 2.06pts per game

WITHOUT NDJ: W1 D2 L3 = 5pts at 0.83pts per game

i asked sabster to comment on this in a similar thread a while back - he conveniently ignored it then too

I have commented on it - look.

Those stats aren't right, it is more like 2.06 with, 1.7 without but the point is that these stats is that they don't mean that much - balotelli was 2.34 with and 1.5 without.

-- Thu Jun 23, 2011 9:58 pm --

Again that is my point - in terms of performance this season Barry and De Jong has been very close.

And people keep on using the argument that Mancini has used De Jong loads - he has use Barry MORE

Fellaini isn't fit to lace Nigels boots. He has 1 outstanding game a season and the rest of the time he's either average or shit. Even Everton fans don't rate him and these are the people who think we underpaid for Lescott.
