''Dead wood'' at work

I did so little people thought I must be important, worked a great. Made me MD in the end :-)
People are really good at looking busy, which is a skill in it‘s self. I was shite at looking busy if I wasn’t , which got me in trouble a few times. Half of them wouldn’t know hard work if it smashed them in the face. I was quite good at skiving .

We have a part time girl in the office who is complaining to the boss, while wearing a low cut top that she has to much work on and that he should hire another person to do her job while she is on days off. or we could hire a full time person who works 5 days a week and solve the problem , this doesn't register with her though.

Ive just managed to ship a bullshitter on. She had almost everyone fooled until I started bossing her. She crumbled once she realised I had sussed her out and the game was up for her

Two simple rules for shirking work:

1) Wait until the third time you are asked to do something - most managers will either do it them selves or get some other **** to do it after the second time.

2) It's only a bollocking if you are actually listening and paying attention to it. Otherwise it's just someone in front of you stressing themselves out.

You know the rules....

We have some dead wood at work.

This person was taken on as a senior technician ! Same roll as me ;)

The person doesn't meet any of the job advertisements spec.

They openly admit they can't use simple power tools like a drill, or lawn mower or strim, or lift, have no clue about health and safety. They order the staff to do things instead of asking.

One of the first things she did was some weeding and littering picking. But she climbed over the fence and was doing this with a drop of about 40ft. Bloody mad ! That's why there's a bloody fence there to stop people being close to the edge.

They dont work alongside the staff , I do.
This person left one member of staff , who cant be left alone to work for his own safety. He is a really nice lad but just needs someone to keep an eye on him, no big deal.

This lad was left working on his own clearing a flower bed, which has a 4ft straight drop onto the pavement. Lots of trip hazards, low branches and to top it of a broken man hole cover you could put your leg through !.

When I drove passed and saw him I stop and told him to get down go back to the yard. I got back to the yard and the 'dead wood ' who should gave him the job and was meant to be working with him , was on their phone with a brew , feet up !.

We had a row and they didnt think their was any danger there !. I couldn't understand how her on site risk assessment didnt flag these up. Than she admits she didnt think it was unsafe. She is putting the workers health at risk. But also why didnt our boss know this ? . It's a shambles this place.

Work sheets were brought I for 2 weeks it showed that the 2 lads and me did 54 jobs compared to her 6 ! The work sheets stopped after that lol.

The atmosphere at work is now horrible because no ones wants to work with her as it means them doing the work as she is on her phone all the time and has said to manager that she cant do the job !. We get bollocked for the atmosphere. She cant do the jobs but likes to criticize our work !!

The joung lads are now looking to move on , they dont think it's fair that me at 60 is working harder than the other person in my position. Also that she doesnt know how to do the jobs and wont do the jobs.

The position was to be the same roll as me, and they dont think it's fair. It isnt fair.

We had a generator to lift into the van the other day told her it needed 3 people to lift. She just got out the van and walked off. Leaving me and a young lad to do it. If we had said anything she would just go running back to our manager saying we are picking on her again. So you both leave into and out of the van. Than filled in the accident book for hurting our backs. All on CCTV cameras ;)

Sadly there isnt much we can do apart from look for another job. This person is teflon, and seems well liked by people who dont have to work with her
Just me who thought this was gonna be some long winded joke about his missus?

No?
