Declan Rice

I'm going to be honest, I still don't really get the fuss. He's solid enough but some of the rumoured price tags he's had over the last couple of years are hysterical.
Totally agree a very good solid player but like Grealish and all English players, vastly overrated and overpriced.

Makes no sense for us to be in for Rice. The fee needed to prize him away would be astronomical, not far off Grealish figures. he would have to be a plays every game possible signing but we don't need that kind of player, we also don't have any need for his homegrown factor but we'd be expected to pay for it nonetheless.

For what it's worth I think he's a very good player and under Pep and in a team of our quality he could be outstanding but I just don't see us looking at him, we simply don't need him. There again, I didn't see us being interested in Grealish for the same reasons.

I don't think Chelsea neccesarily need him either, they lack creativity in their midfield, the one side where he would prove the best value is United, but why leave West Ham where he's captain to go to that circus?

Like you said, these same points were made over and over again in the hundreds and hundreds of pages of the Grealish thread. We don’t need him and will cost too much, especially. What I don’t agree with you is that he would have to play every game possible. Does Grealish play every game possible? And yet I think Rice would play a lot.
It comes down to what Pep will say. If he says, I want him, the club will bend over backwards to get him. I also have a feeling the club would love to have yet another starter for the English national team in the squad.

I wasn't a big fan of Declan Rice but I have been forced to reassess.

12 months ago we knew Fern was coming towards the end of his career but it wasn't clear that Rodri was going to make it in the Premier League. This season Rodri has been exceptional and I wouldn't be looking to replace him. I don't see a role for Rice at City but he is so good that I fear him going to another club.

In my opinion Rice is the main reason WHU are up in the top 6 but they look like they will be forced to sell in the Summer window. If I were Man Utd, he would be my no. 1 transfer target and I expect him to go there unless they completely collapse.

Rice plays in one position, a position that the current best player in that position in the league plays in for us, in an area of the pitch where we only play one player (we don’t sacrifice forwards for another defensive midfielder). Rice isn’t good enough to play in attacking midfield for us.

Grealish can play in three different positions around players who also can all play in three different positions, so are all interchangeable from game-to-game and even within games.

If I were Rice, I’d be looking at United and looking at West Ham and thinking “I’m better off at West Ham”.

I don’t think Pep sees him as one-dimensional as you do. But we’ll see

Everyone said the same about Walker, Stones and Sterling. They’ve all proven to be good value for money over the years.

He’s an excellent player, but we already have the best midfield in the world so have no need for him. We just need to focus all our efforts and as much of our transfer funds as it takes on signing the very best striker we can persuade to come here. With a reliable finisher I believe we’d be unstoppable.
