Declan Rice

Wanting and getting are very far apart… The mistake Sullivan made was doing an interview after their European cup venture and telling the world that although they had no interested parties that Rice was going and had played his last game. Nobody therefore needs to up their bids, we all know he’s being sold regardless so as long as we just match one another and don’t give him the bidding war he’s praying for, then Rice leaves for under the £100m mark.

Probably found it a lot easier selling dildos

Not sure Aluko is as far wide of the mark as it seems. Had a theory for a while that City want Arsenal as our buffer to Utd & Liverpool. Yes they provided the stamped paper for the letter but they'll never be as bad as those other two and now with Arteta, Zynchenko, Jesus all there, wouldn't be surprised if we sent them Cancelo either. Rice going there would solidify them as second to us.

What checks do you want placed on the media's free speech that don't already exist?
I don't particularly, just think the standards of reporting are becoming a parody but will be taken as gospel by some of the tribal public. Would never tune into Talksport or the like as it isn't for me. The clip hasn't changed my mind

There isn't going to be much wriggle room if he did sign for that amount. Can't put it down to age. I doubt we are going to go above £100m
Why do you think that? Most of us here haven’t got a clue what wer prepared to spend, so it’d help if we knew your reasoning or itk info. Thanks.

The ideal scenario is he only wants us and he’s let us know. West Ham have promised him he can leave so we sit still.

West Ham will do all they can to get him here rather than another London club in Arsenal.

Not only that, the deal will almost certainly include add-ons and, let's face it, ours are going to be more achievable than what Arsenal's are given they're usually trophy-related.

TH said it perfectly, Arsenal are in a nightmare scenario now of having a player who is comfortable going to either club - not just Arsenal as they wanted everybody to believe - and our first bid being higher than their second. If they bid again, which they've leaked will be their last, then it either has to blow us out of the water or we can simply outbid again and get the player.

Either way Arsenal have paid more than they wanted to or they've lost out to a rival in a very public transfer battle - or they simply back down to save face.

Txiki will be sat there after last night knowing full-well West Ham would reject that first bid but knowing that our ceiling is higher than Arsenal's.

If only they'd have won something, their kitty would've been so much bigger...

I can't imagine for one secodn that we want Rice if we've submitted a bid that has so quickly been rejected by Wham (gievn that bids don't just materialise out of thin air, they're a result of some verbal communication / negotiation first).

For me, this leaves one of two possibilities:

1 - A solo venture, where we don't actually want him but are attempting to get Arsenal to stump up mega-ding so that they're limited in the improvements that they can make (a bit like we've done with Utd pretty much every summer for the last 10 years).

OR

2 - Some sort of collusion with Wham in order to get Arsenal to stump up as much as possible (basically no.1, but in league with Wham).

Either way, (and even if the true answer is 3 - We are actually genuine in our attempt to sign him, I never thought that it was possible to feel so 'meh' about City putting in a £90m bid for a player.
