what do you mean "end of"? Arrogant arsehole

No need for that. Just silly.

sorry I hate that phrase "end of" - the suggestion being that the person saying it has spoken and there is no room for any different views

I'm with you on that, it's a pet hate of mine.

Demichelis was in the La Liga team of the season, ahead of the likes of Pepe, Piqué, Puyol and Ramos.

I'd imagine the most attractive attributes will be his leadership and experience. We look a bit lost when Kompany's out.

I wish mate. Once you see this lad playing you will really wonder why we let Kolo go and spunked a load of pat cash on javi garcia mk2.

Why are you so down about this signing? Did he bang your wife?

Well some fucker has to !!!

Good enough for the bench? Check
Good enough to organise a defence? Check
Leader? Check
Good enough to deputise in the case of an injury or suspension? Check
Good enough to rest Vinny for cups? Check.

Lets be honest guys at first I was very underwhelmed but this signing makes complete sense after I thought about it.

It's not like he will play all the time...only when worse comes to worse or in weak cup ties.

He's been good against Europe's best teams. Personally, I welcome him.

I agree and also when you think about it, he has to be better than a poor slow midfield player, filling in at centre back out of position. Someone made that point on another thread. It's called round pegs in round holes!

Couldn`t resist it mate.By the way, have you met the missus ... its just that you`re not far wrong about the fish smell ?

Honestly in terms of just strengthening our squad this will be just as important as any if the others, hopefully no more lescott/ Garcia partnerships at CB

She's not called Captain Birdseye for nothing.

Juat kidding fella.

Keep up the good work.

In Demichellis we trust. All of the top teams were after him.

Atletico's recent history with transfers is pretty damn impressive. They're making an effort of competing with the duopoly on positive net spend with well identified bargains (and the occasional bigger signing but only with the money they make from selling someone like Aguero or De Gea).

Manchester City have agreed a deal in principle with Atletico Madrid for centre-back Martin Demichelis, Goal understands.

MANCHESTER CITY LATEST
City have negotiated a fee of around £3.5 million up front, plus a further £500k in add-ons, with the Liga club.

Personal terms are yet to be agreed with the Argentine stopper, though further talks are scheduled for Wednesday as the Premier League side look to recruit cover for the injured Vincent Kompany.

Insightful video of his game against Real, does look good I have to admit.

I am reserving my judgement. Lets hope he can replicate this form for us.

Seems like this is just a matter of time now and have to say I am pretty pleased with it, even if it is a stop-gap measure it is a smart move. IF he is still around the first team next season then it is a bonus.

Not as slow as people are making out (not lightning at all but has a burst of speed on him), strong, good communicator and reads the game very well. He also can play the offside trap effectively and I think Pelle is heading that way with us. Also comfortable as left or right side centre back.

Nothing is guaranteed in football, but as I say, seems a smart signing. I seem to recall that when Barca sold off that Mexican centre back, (Marquez was it?) Demichelis was supposedly very high on their list of replacements. Think they got Mascherano instead in the end.

Yep, that's true. Though some of the flak for his performance against Cardiff isn't fair, I thought he identified and dealt with Campbell's pace by the second half, either cutting out the ball or getting a challenge in to push him away from where he wanted to be, it was the set pieces that were the issue. That said, I would not want to see him at CB again any time soon.

iirc Barca were chasing Mascherano like mad anyway, primarily for a defensive midfield position, then converted him to a makeshift centre back too. He probably is a better player anyway to be honest. Plus they moved Puyol into the centre from full back as they got Dani Alves.
