Personally I haven't been overwhelmed by any of our summer signing.
Don't get me wrong, there all good players who will improve the squad but non of them are any of the elite players out there.
Cavani, ibra, falcao, Lewandowski, isco, even Erikson and Pepe etc etc
The players we hav signed all seem like quality additions but just not any of the elite players out there.

you could say Torres, Kaka, Robinho, Veron, Shevchenko etc were all elite players when they moved for zillions but not very elite at their new clubs

hmmm I'm in two minds now.

Whilst it's great getting in another CB for Kompany, will he do the job in the CL if needs be?

I wouldn't mind getting in 2 CBs being honest as that's were we most need it.

Did you see Malaga last year in the CL? Very good defensively

Their high line ultimately cost them a place in the semi's (although it could be argued it also helped to get them into the quarter's in the first place).

One of the things that cost Malaga, was Dortmund lumping a lousy hopeful hoof into their box & Demichellis completely missing the ball, with just about the worst attempt at an header I've ever seen on a football field.

Shortly afterwards he was beaten to another header which resulted in Dortmund scoring the winner.

You mean it was worse than Lescott's against QPR?

What is it about this forum that every signing we seem to make is either a world beater or a donkey. Suppose thats just the way things are these days with football fans so prone to over reaction.

Well this has surprised me tbh, I can only assume you've signed him as back up. He is a decent player but at Bayern they finally decided he was just too error prone and sold him.
I wish him all the best at City however, he always put the workrate in while he was at Bayern even if he frightened the life out of the fans when he had the ball in our box ! He was popular with the fans and well liked in Munich though.

Or Kompanys duck against Real Madrid?

Signings like these just seem like jobs for the boys to me like Mancini did with Maicon.

Surely it would be more beneficial to take a chance on a youngster.

I think taking any chances is just what we can't do. Bringing in an experienced defender as cover for injuries/suspensions is a sensible move in my opinion. He doesn't have to be the next Baresi or even as good as Kompany - he just needs to be better than a youth academy player and Garcia, so when we play away at the likes of Norwich or Stoke without Vinny we don't get twatted from set pieces.

Not when considering the purpose of bringing him in. He will know exactly how Manuel wants his defence to operate, and will not require any time at all settling into a new system or new manager. It will be easier for our other defenders when they have one to follow in practice.
