Demichelis

Will be a good signing for Champs league. Played in most of malaga's games last season. Still think we could do with one more defender as well as him.

Signings like these just seem like jobs for the boys to me like Mancini did with Maicon.

Surely it would be more beneficial to take a chance on a youngster.
We've already got a great youngster in Nastasić and have Rekik coming back next Summer.

We don't need another youngster.

We need someone more experienced, even than Kompany. Ideally someone who's succeeded in European football who's in his 30s. That isn't Dimicheles, to be honest, who it would be I'm not sure but I think that's what we're lacking at Centre Half.

Their high line ultimately cost them a place in the semi's (although it could be argued it also helped to get them into the quarter's in the first place).

One of the things that cost Malaga, was Dortmund lumping a lousy hopeful hoof into their box & Demichellis completely missing the ball, with just about the worst attempt at an header I've ever seen on a football field.

Shortly afterwards he was beaten to another header which resulted in Dortmund scoring the winner.
You mean it was worse than Lescott's against QPR?
Did you not see that game. Seriously if you think the defending v Cardiff was bad, you aint seen nothing yet.

Malaga shat there pants while Dortmund played ping pong in ther box

To be fair our defending in the second half at home to Dortmund was easily as bad.

Don't see how signing Demichelis is a negative thing whatsoever. If we get him we will be signing a very experience defender who was one of the best in La Liga last season. He also know Pellegrini's system inside out and should help fill the void any injuries may take.

Also I don't think signing Demichellis signals the end of Lescott. Apart from his poor technical ability and lack of leadership Lescott is still a very good defender. Most people have agreed that Lescott struggles without a leader next to him and perhaps Demichellis can help him in that respect.

I would be more than happy with Kompany, Nastasic, Lescott and Demichellis being our 4 CB's this season.

I'd certainly rather get Demichellis than make no signing. As you say he will add some experience and leadership at the back. I still look at those 4 centre backs and think that beyond Vinnie there wouldn't be much pace there.

I agree with your point but I also think the whole concept of a defender needing pace is overplayed. 9 times out of 10 the only time a defender needs pace is when he is either left exposed or covering for a teammate. Of course having pace is a great asset to any player but when a defender relies on pace then its evident that other more important aspects of defending are missing from their game.

Well if we keep on defending so far up the pitch then pace is going to fairly important imo. If we drop deeper then it becomes far less of an issue. It would seem quite odd to sign another defender who will probably need pace alongside him in Pellegrini's preferred system.

Leaving ourselves exposed is just one of the risks defending with a high line creates and a lack of pace is certainly not going to help our exposed defence. However to counter this I would say that if a defence keeps continually getting exposed when playing with a high line then the system is failing. When the defenders get used to the system the mistakes will fade.
