Agreed but swop Palmer for Gordon.

Palmer is the man in form, has to be given a chance.
Due to that bellend deciding not to take Grealish in a 26 man squad it has to be Gordon. Palmer would have the same problem Phil has been having on the left. The first decent side will absolutely kill us by attacking down that side. Southgate is fucking horrendous and the balance of the side is even worse

That about sums him up tonight, one touch in the box, and a goal, but he was otherwise useless, lasted longer than he should have for me.
There is always that threat though mate . If you’re a Denmark player and you’re subbing Harry Kane for Ollie Watkins you are loving and even more when foden and Saka are joining him . Bet you foden plays number 10 in the next game .

Palmer is a maverick, I think he would just go on that pitch and do his thing, which in my opinion is what's needed.

High time these players got together and put Southgate in his place.

Hop you’re right regarding Foden. Just can’t see it though with this goon in charge. He’s probably thinking Denmark dominated us so get another defender on to make us tighter!

Pundits etc comparing Foden with scholes situation it’s nothing like England had top notch midfielders back then all fighting for the same spot now they don’t he’s being played out of position for a fucking right back and even when he changes it he brings another dm on , you only have to look at the 2 times Phil come inside he caused problems but god forbid he tells st Jude to drop deeper so Phil can actually shine he’s fucking spineless as well as clueless

He’s definitely a maverick and great to watch. He can’t play on the left in that side though. He lacks pace to get up and down and when he’d inevitably drift inside he’d leave huge gaps down that side. We’re so easily exposed down there and teams we’ve played(both shite) haven’t taken full advantage of it yet.

There are similarities though. As you say we had much better centre mids back then but we still played our most technically gifted player out there to fit him in. The team is completely unbalanced like it was years ago with Scholes there.

He will take the game to the opposition and with the talent we have that's the only way we have a chance in this competition.

The way Southgate sets this team up is so dull and uninspiring and clearly the cracks are showing in the players, Foden and Saka look shadows of the players for their clubs.

But at the same time do we as a nation totally go overboard on our players?

That was painful.
Southgate’s tactics are so, so predictable, he’s doing half the job for the opposition managers.
Persisting with TAA was akin to the delusional mental gymnastics a gambler employs “this time …”
The players look shackled, playing so below their club form, it was painful.
All these players have club managers, so, so superior to Southgate, it’s all becoming painfully obvious that Southgate is out of his depth, hasn’t a clue, & it’s not like it’s not a shock, all the friendlies & warm up games have been the same turgid crap.
Either the penny drops (doubtful) or there needs to be some kind of intervention, either from assistant coaches, or players telling Southgate, it’s just not working!
The England team played like a Sunday league team, on a Sunday league pitch.
I wasn’t even angry at the players, because I can imagine how frustrated Phil feels, you could see him busting his balls to drag the team out of that Torpour, desperate to wake the team up.
On the day that Donald Sutherland died, the image that’s conjured up is England players with pods under their beds being slowly turned into Southgate clones, lifeless, mindless husks without personality.
Wake the fuck up!
Your right it is painful and he's out of his depth and he hasn't a clue. But he's doing his best the only way he knows how (which obviously isn't good enough) so ultimately its not his fault. The real culprits here are his employers.

We do go overboard. We have great attacking players but we don't have anyone who can run the game.

Under Southgate our best performances have been as a side that presses high and counters, but doesn't dominate the ball. Kane dropping in and feeding runners.

The best players we have now don't play that way, and he hasn't learnt that the two holding midfielders with a combative style isn't what we need. He talked about how we haven't got a natural replacement for Phillips. True, but we do have players like Bellingham and Foden who can keep the ball and dictate things in the middle of the park.

Bellingham is the most natural replacement for Phillips, it would unlock Foden as a 10 and enable you to get someone like Gordon running in behind on the left.

Palmer would be the natural sub in the 10 role. You don't play him wide left.
