He's okay. His music contributions on here are excellent. And, of course, he'll defend West Ham. But, for the life of me, I can't see how he can defend Southgate after this. Yes he's got us to a major final as well as a semi final and a quarter final (separate tournaments, by the way!). But you can't live on past achievements. And that display yesterday was spirit crushing. I thought our display in the cup final was awful, but yesterday was a whole new level of ineptitude. And let's be (Thomas) frank here; Denmark are not exactly a world power in football. But they looked the more accomplished side for the bulk of the game yesterday.

I watched the game yesterday on Spanish TV in my apartment, as I'm on holiday. This meant I didn't hear the so called experts chunnering on during the game or after it. It showed a shot behind the scenes just before the second half started. The players are just standing around. At the back is Phil on his own. He's red faced and looks totally pissed off. In the foreground is Southgate. He had a folder in his hands and looked like a bloody PE teacher at school. I have no idea why he was there, he wasn't talking to the players, they were just talking amongst themselves. To me it looked like a divided camp who have lost all faith in their manager. If they have, who could blame them?

We have no discernable tactics except to try and take the lead and hold on. Everybody looks scared to death on the ball and nobody seems to know where they're supposed to be playing or what to do. Bellingham was awful yesterday. Just running into trouble, lose the ball, fall over and shockingly just sit there with his hands up looking for a free kick. Arnold in midfield is literally like playing with a man short. Rice is putting in a lot of work but gets near the opposition penalty area and runs out of ideas. Kane was awful. A slow plodding lump, he could hardly hold the ball up or pose any threat. His suicidal pass to nobody that created the Dane's goal was criminal. Phil and Saka looked our only goal threat and he took Phil off. Laughable!

There isn't an easy solution to this mess. Arnold needs dropping and Phil putting in midfield. Out wide we need some pace, Gordon or Palmer. Upfront we need more mobility, Watkins or Toney. At the back we're probably stuck with what we have. We should stumble out of the group but I fear for our chances against the first half decent side we meet, we could get a drubbing.

Anyway, to give a little balance, I think Kyle has played pretty well in these two games. In fact I would go as far and say he has been our most consistent player.

as for the rest of it?
80% on Southgate
20% on the players as a collective - they could be doing more to resolve some of the issues. Let's face it, all but two or three come from possession based, high press attacking teams. That isn't the way any of them are playing just now.

And whilst I'm on it. Shearer. What a **** that man is. England flop to the floor at final whistle 'Look at them, they look exhausted. That is ridiculous. There is no excuse for that'.

Other than playing 60 games a season for the last five seasons with nary a break.

It has occurred to me that this might be at least part of the reason for England perennially underperforming. When they get to the summer they just don't have any freshness. You look at Kev, and he never really turns up for Belgium. This is arguably the best midfielder in the world for several seasons. For his club.

As for anyone saying that these England players do not have the basic ability of any other team in the tournament, sorry, but that's just laughable. Several of them — all of ours, Kane, Bellingham — play in the undisputed three best club sides in Europe, never mind England. All the others (and yes, that includes Alexander-Arnold) are very, very good players. It's not about that.
This is one of the most talented generations of England players since the 1990 team. To say, “Oh, Southgate got them to a Euro final and a WC semi-final”, well, I'm going to call it — with what he's got at his disposal, that just isn't good enough. England should be bloody winning things from time to time!

Not random at all, my uncle was a Man City fanatic and I grew up through all the shit times for City and was delighted how things turned out. Because of that, City have been my favourite English team. I don’t know if that qualifies me, but it fucking should. As for stirring shit? What you on about? Show me an example of that.

Take no notice pal.

You say that but in the entire history of the game of football, England have won one major tournament.

Well aware of it. The euphoria of ’66 was what got me into football in the first place.
But that fact is not a norm. It is a glaring oddity. It is something that puzzles not just England football supporters, but Europeans.

For two successive World Cups, England failed even to qualify:
’74 and ’78. For one of the major footballing nations, a country that's mad about football, that codified the game in its modern form, that is simply extraordinary.

When City lose (apart from the Cup final this year) it takes me a couple of hours at the most to get over it.
Normally when England lose it takes me a couple of minutes.... not this game. This game I am still fuming about. Partly because I feel that Wasted Waistcoat is definitely wasting the best players. Kane is past it, River needs a kick up the back side, (he is not a bad player, not good enough for City but..) Bellthingy needs to be put out to pasture and shown how his oversized ego needs to pipe down, Phil needs to forget that some of them are older than him and take them by the scruff of the neck and show them how it's done. Kyle wants to put his arm round a couple of players and say look this is how we do it, RUN for goodness sake. John Boy welll let's face it he's perfect. ;-) and look how he has shown Guehi to follow in his footsteps.
Trippier wasn't too bad just needs to forget the rest and concentrate on his game. Rice, well he might be better with fried chicken and Saka did have a couple of good passes.

That's my take on a miserable night and it is probably not what you think but hey ho it is my opinion. :-)

EDIT: Plus every single player, even those who didn't feature in as many matches as a certain three players were flaming well tired from exhausting seasons. It's time they had a summer off.

Well, here's my prediction as to how it will pan out (for what it's worth):

England will scrape past Slovenia, and will qualify for the knock-out rounds.

England will win the tournament, largely thanks to some other fancied teams being surprisingly knocked out - and of course a couple of Kane penalties.

And Southgate will receive a knighthood in the next New Year's Honours List.

Remember - you heard it here first.

Always look out for your posts, and often read them with pleasure. It's healty to have supporters of other teams on this forum who are well-disposed towards City. And I've never had any reason to think that that was not the case.
I also like your sense of humour. Welcome on here as far as I'm concerned, mate.
