Diabetes

They described Metformin to me as a drug from heaven. I think I’ll self diagnose myself back to 3 a day from my current 1. I can’t tell anymore if I’m fatigued or just old.

I remember when doctors were helpful. They’re anything but now.
I thought my fatigue was age and B12 related as well. I was almost non functional before Xmas. Even small tasks/jobs were just to much. Coming home from work tired is normal. Going to work even more tired isn't.
My working days were getting shorter and shorter to the point i started to close the business down.

Although i'm still closing the business, this new lease of life is giving confidence i will have the energy to get my next venture up and running. This time i'm getting people to do all the work and i will only manage.
As mentioned above, there come a point/age where you really do have to look after yourself better.

More or less teetotal nowadays. Stopped drinking 2010 after my drinking buddy died suddenly.
He was the big drinker though, i just went along for the ride. He was bloody hilarious when he'd had a few.
Drinking after that just didn't seem the same, so i stopped...

I’m sorry, mate. Just with your username and all.

Good for you for stopping though. It’s a bastard.

I was told that I was prediabetic back in 2017. Thats without me fitting the profile of a potential type 2 diabetic. I was fit and healthy, leathering the gym, ate well and looked healthy. I must add at this point, I was struggling to get Crohns disease under control.
Last year I told that I was a type 2 diabetic, with my HbA1c at 68. Again, I did not fit the profile of a type 2 diabetic. Weight was perfect, along with blood pressure and cholesterol. By this time, I had managed to get Crohns under control.
I was left to my own devices and I never heard a thing from the doctors until about 2 months ago. I was under the impression all was fine and must have put it into remission. I had my HbA1c done and I was up to 101.
They started taking it seriously then. Had more tests done and I came up positive for 2 of the antibody markers which only type 1's have. The diabetic nurses and doctors do not have a clue as I do not seem to be either type 1 or 2. In the interim, I have managed to bring the glucose down, by cutting out most carbs. The CGM is suggesting my HbA1c is 42 and this week the glucose is averaging what a none diabetic person would be. I have had to hammer the gym, take a load of supplements and cut out carbs to get it there. But, I am still clearly producing insulin, as I am not on any medication. Yet, I still have these antibodies in my blood which suggest I am type 1.

I was just on the cusp a few years ago, so the doc said I must watch what I eat. I went back two years later and my sugar levels were down....so I must have subconsciously cut down on sugar and crap food without really trying. This last test has shown the levels are back up...so I must have subconsciously had MORE crap but nice food...complacency. I'm going for it full on now eat what the fuck I want and see.....see what happens :)

Do yourself a favour mate and get yourself a libre 2 sensor. They go in your arm (it's totally painless) and you can see on your phone, what your blood sugar is doing in real time. It might end up being the best £60 you spend in your entire life.

That means I'll have to buy a phone.

I have T2, which was first diagnosed over 5 years ago when I was overweight and not really exercising, so I disciplined myself to eat better and take more exercise. Within 6 months I'd lost nearly 2 stone and my blood sugar level was back in the normal range.

After 3 years I was formally in remission, which I was thrilled about but I got complacent and started eating rubbish, didn't exercise and I'm well in the diabetic range again, even though my weight is as low as it's been for many years. In fact my HB1AC level is far higher than it was when I was first diagnosed in 2019.

I'm now on Metformin but I still have the belief I can control my diabetes by keeping my weight down and exercising. However the GP explained that it might just be my body becoming more resistant to insulin , or failing to produce enough, as I get older

The only way to stay on top of what you're eating is to track it, using an app. You have to be ruthless in tracking everything, as it's too easy to 'forget' you've just had a bar of chocolate or a biscuit.
