What did we win last year with a solid defence?

We finished second and got to a final we never showed up for.
Right now I think I would take that all day long.
Apart from the not-showing-up-for-the-final bit.

Anyone else get the feeling that if we played an identical season to our last one it might be enough for first this year? I think based on what I've seen of the top clubs so far, I'd take last year's 78 points right now if offered.

People are underestimating our home form.

P4 W4 D0 L0 GS: 13 GC: 2 GD: +11 Pts: 12.

Domestically at least there's no reason our home form can't be key. I think we should look to match the 11/12 season of W18 D1 L0, which would leave us with 55 points. From there you're looking at between 30-35 in the away set. 30 would mean probably W8 D6 L5, which the way we're playing away is sadly possible, that would take us to 85. 35 would mean W10 D5 L4, which I think would be optimistic winning 10 of our away games.

Our home form is VITAL, we have to go in and win every home game to win the league imo. Away form, the way it is at the moment let's aim for 8 wins and half a dozen draws, if we pick up a run and can increase those wins brilliant, but let's set a modest target and really thump that home form.

I think minimum 80-82 to win the league.

YaYa certainly did not run the show. He had his moments but overall I didn't think today was him at his best, not even close.

Funny how people see games differently. I watched ours today with a Liverpool fan who's a good mate of mine. Halfway through the second half he turned to me and said "Toure's the best player in the league right now".

Every non City fan I know think he's superb

He's Gareth Barry's alter ego, rated by everyone except City fans (although at least Barry is starting to be rated by Everton fans, who always seem to be his biggest critic)

I think Yaya is the best player in the league.

Just can´t see enough away wins this season - think we´ll be lucky to win 6 tbh. Even Toon have a better away record than us now - lets hope with our strong home form that´s enough for CL

That's because you're such a pessimist.

-- Sat Oct 05, 2013 9:47 pm --

Interesting that MP gave Merlin a free role today, even with two forwards in the team. It was a very lopsided formation that left acres of space on our left and tbh I was surprised that Everton didn't try and exploit it with Mirallas and Coleman. One of Negredo or Sergio was expected to drift left to pressure that side and help AK out.

Worked, which is the main thing.

Will it work against better teams though? When we're leaving Oscar, Walcott, Lamela in acres of space. Will MP change if it doesn't?

We'll have to wait and see. No one knows (not even Pellegrini) how we are going to set up against Chelsea,Arsenal and Spuds.

Said in the Everton forum the changes he made made the side look a lot more balanced than on Wednesday. Very pleased he did that and that we got the result we thoroughly deserved.

Yeah very true. Encouraging to see him finish each of our last matches with a 4-2-3-1 that much more suits our players (although won't delight 3 of our 4 strikers possibly)
