I think Pellegrini's showing even more naivety with the comments about tottenham before sundays game. I expect us to win the game anyway but the comments aren't the wisest. He's right, of course, as there's no way spurs or liverpool have a hope of winning the title, but don't imply that right before we play them!

What's he said mate and where? Hope that shit doesn't come back to bite us on the ass :( Hate it when managers say silly things about other clubs always pumps them up.

Not a lot, and he's right:'

Ahead of their match at the Etihad on Sunday, Pellegrini said: “The Premier League is very close this year.

“There are six clubs challenging. But at the end it will be between Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City for the title.”

...but he should know that the papers will go with the "Tottenham dismissed by Manuel Pellegrini" (express) and "Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini rules Tottenham out of the Premier League title picture" (Mirror). That's tottenhams teamtalk right there and he's gotta win this now because everyone will ram this down his throat if we don't

I doubt he thought Villa, Cardiff and Sunderland would beat us either. I don't get the point in bluntly stating things you can't be certain of, especially when you've seven teams above you.

I tend to agree with Hombre that it was an unnecessary thing to say, although I suspect that rather than purposely winding up Spurs he was merely stating his opinion on what the top 4 will look like at the end of the season.

With regards to there being 7 teams above us, he could just as easily state that there's only six points between us and the top of the league. Also as the manager who sees the players day in and day out and coaches them, i'm sure he's in a pretty good position to make a call on where he thinks City will end up, and if he thinks it'll be in the top 4, there's absolutely nothing wrong in saying that.

And at his press conference tomorrow, he'll say what a good side Spurs are and how they will be difficult to beat...

Truly a case of nothing to see here.

Are you sure that's not just because I'm in possession of our shared brain cell today ? ;)

He's right, Spurs won't be challenging for the league. Now he needs to show why and put them to the sword at the weekend. No fucking about, strongest available side playing with the intensity we've enjoyed watching at home so far.
They will be chomping at the bit this being the first chance to shine after the Sunderland debacle. If that's the case then I fancy a 3/4 goal winning margin. Us at our best is so much better than Spurs at their best, it's not even close.

Got turned over at Sunderland, Cardiff and Villa, somehow i cant see us going away in europe and turning over any decent team.

You should watch a few more games mate, we've been absolutely brilliant at times and could leather any team out there on our day.
And also get beat by a team of hard working journeymen on quite a few days.

You'r just repeating what carlos said. If you think we can't turn over a team away fron home based on certain results, then it just makes sense that we can based on other results.

Damn, I knew I was missing something.

I'm just catching up with the "which derby was better" meta discussion. I'm convinced this thread is going to go into the classics part of the forum one day. I don't know if it's just me, but generally it has been so much more civilised and so much less aggressive than the Mancini ones from last year. I wonder why that could be ... :)

Absolutely nothing wrong with what he said and exactly how I see the table finishing. If Spurs beat us it will be due to the players performances on the pitch. Pellegrini stating they may not be part of the Top four will not act as any greater motivation to the Spurs players than their own personal pride and the fact they will want to break into 'the top four'.
