He will be given money to spend and expected to win the league next season but if we are adrift at Christmas the axe should fall just as it did with Hughes.

Why would we be adrift at Christmas next season when we're still in the race with 5/6 games to go this season ? Total logic fail there once again from you Rob. Think you need to go for a long walk because you've been systematically at the manager's throat since our first defeat of the season back in September. It's a bit tragic when the guy's already won a trophy and has made such a marked and stark improvement on last season.

There's a bigger picture happening at City also which you're completely missing. The current squad is one which the previous two managers built. Pellegrini will be given the same time and space which Mancini and before him Hughes got. There'll be no knee jerking because Liverpool won yesterday or if we don't win the title. The expectation will be greater next season but nobody involved at the club will be lamenting Pellegrini's appointment. He's exactly what everyone from Sheikh Mansour downwards wanted for City last summer because he is not only stabilising but improving a team that was at the end of last season ready to be broken up because of the amount of dissatisfaction amongst the playing staff.

Improving? Debateable. Both you and I reckoned we should have won last year. We have added players , got rid of a divisive manager. Ergo we should be champions this year. Our performances against our main rivals have been naive.

Point two. You are probably right. But in my defence I want titles now rather than at some point in the future when the whole holistic thing comes together.

Fuck stark improvement on last season. How about we aim for stark improvement on the 11/12 season? Take the high point and aim for even higher. 89 points right now would win us the title. Again.

You can't ignore the points lost through adjusting from one manager to the next

Would we expect to start next season with losses at cardiff, Sunderland and Villa. Maybe lose the odd one, but we couldn't win away for 2 months.

Keep saying it. But it's not sinking in. Any new manager needs time to settle in. Allow for that in your assessment

I really don't agree that we dropped early points because the team needed a period of adjustment. If you look at all the matches and analyse them properly we were the dominant team creating the most chances, having the most possession, most touches in the oppositions area etc. The problems stemmed from calamitous individual errors from the usually super reliable trio of Vinny, Joe, and Zaba. Maybe this was a by product of the added pressure of playing a more attacking formation this season, but it still doesn't change the fact that the errors (as yesterday's from Vinny) were incredibly uncharacteristic of normally top players.

Marvin,

I think you are right on this but that it is not the whole story. I consider this a transitional season of sorts but, even allowing for that, I think our players have screwed up in ways that I cannot blame on the transition. Most of the costly errors have come from players that Pellegrini inherited. However this season turns out, I hope that Pellegrini gets to make the changes to the squad that he most wants this summer; changes that will be based, in large part, on a season of assessing what he has.

I continue to have question marks against the mental fortitude of this team,;questions that yesterday's game did nothing, overall, to answer.

He needs to drop nasri and navas, simple as that.

They're ok for home games but not away games when the pressure is on.
Nasri back to his old form, not seen a player since Petrov pull out of so many challenges.
Looks to me like he's put weight on again and consequently lost that zip that he'd regained earlier this season.

Yes I agree

Players like Hart and Kompany have under-performed. Hart had a nightmarish spell for 2 months which cost us a lot of points

Kompany has had an injury nightmare for 2 seasons. Likewise Aguero

managerial transition isn't the whole story, but is one factor on many which needs allowing for.

Pellegrini has made mistakes too. I'd like to see Billy list a few

Could have something to do with the rumours floating around in France that City aren't rushing to tie him down to a new contract. He'll have 12 months to run in the summer and his transfer value will plummet so would expect that they'd have done it by now, but it seems someone somewhere is dragging their heels.

Personally I think we're going to see a new team built in the next 16 months because of the number of contracts up for renewal and the incredibly high wages of the players who need renewals.

If he is assessing it on this season he may start with Joe and Vincent. Both error prone. If Pellegrini continues in this attacking vein he may have ideas on changing the defence which is getting asked a lot of questions by this new style and even now struggling to adapt.

Personally think its the style not the players that need changing.
