I'm a big fan of the bleedin' obvious and can also enjoy the surprise when something else happens.

Obviously, this season is better than last as we have won a trophy, got to the CL KO stages and and scored more goals.

Obviously, this should be our third title in a row, having the best squad in the league for those three years.

Obviously, it's been an underachievement from both Pellers and Mancini [unless we win the title now, of course].

Obviously, Pellers has a three year contract.

Obviously, so does Pep.

Any other questions?
Why the square brackets?

I'd expect that comment from a two bit tabloid hack on the Sunday Supplement if i'm honest.

You could try addressing the truth it contains, rather than making jibes about where it originates.
I don't think Pellegrini has pulled up any trees this season given the squad at his disposal, and if his predecessor had stayed and had a similar one, then you would have had the knives out long before now.
And you would have had a point.
I'm getting tired of hearing the same old mantra of injuries/bad luck/ bent refs/period of adjustment being wheeled out on here ad nauseum.
For what it's worth, I don't think Pellegrini is a great manager either - I consider him competent, but nothing more.
He doesn't make things happen - too many times he responds to situations rather than pre-empting them, and when he is caught out it costs us dear at this level.
That said, I think he'll get another season, but if he fails to deliver either the Premiership or the Champions League then he will be gone, and rightly so.

But don't you think the criticism of Pellegrini is harsh given this is his first season at City and in the PL?

He's won a trophy and he can still win the league. A potential double in his first season with unfamiliar surroundings. The football is more pleasing to the eye, IMO, and the players look like they want to play for the manager.

Even the best make mistakes. Ferguson was still doing it in his latter days, Mourinho does it, even Guardiola does it (albeit rarely). Let Pellegrini get this first season under his belt and then he can be rightly judged on his merits as Manchester City manager come the end of next season, which by then he will have "bedded in", got rid of deadwood, brought in players to fill the obvious gaps in quality and, more importantly, had a full season to implement his style with the squad he wants. If he fails next season, it would be understandable to "get the knives out", so to speak.

Which part of 'he will be given another season and if he fails to deliver either the Premiership or the Champions league he will be gone and rightly so' do you not understand?
Pellegrini has a much stronger squad at his disposal than the last manager.
I don't think he has got the best from them, and has made costly errors at key stages in games.
I just don't think he's good enough, it's as simple as that.
If he wins the Premiership, the Champions League and Britain's Got Talent next year, then I will be proved wrong, but I have the horrible feeling that I won't.

Even when sometimes I don't always agree with your posts re: Pellegrini, you always manage to make me f*cking laugh

You really aren't very bright are you, Billy?
What makes it worse is that this salient fact hasn't registered with you yet.
We are not a million miles ahead of last season - we have won the League Cup, and according to you from your lofty Parisian perch the players are happier, and that's about it in real terms.
We are now second favourites for a Premiership title that was ours for the taking, and are currently being outsmarted and outplayed by Brendan and his team of little talent and a bunch of journeymen.
If you seriously consider this to be the heralding of a glorious new age then you are even more deluded than I thought.

Aha. The comments about living in Paris. You missed out that I don't go to games either. Predictable to the bitter end Fetlocks. Lets hope the end ends with us lifting the title in May.

-- Wed Apr 16, 2014 1:35 pm --

How's the weather in Abu Dhabi ? :)

You know I could ignore the match tonight and just check this thread in the morning to see whether we'd won or lost :)

For the purpose of clarification:

Square brackets are the more emphatic form of parenthesis; and

Xanadu is a place where nobody can be found.

All clear now?

Think his weakness lies in his unwillingness to change his tactics to suit different teams. Like sticking to the 4-4-2 against Bayern was a huge misjudgement. shown by when he brought on Silva for Aguero(reverting to a 4-2-3-1) we actually got into the game. And this seasons games vs Chelsea, away, yes we lost due to a huge mistake but the tactics were good and I think we were the better team, but at home he played the 4-4-2 and we were dominated all over the pitch, he changes to the 4-2-3-1 in the FA cup and we win comfortably. It seems like it takes for his tactics to fail in a big game for him to change them and big games are the costly ones.
Other than that he's a good manager

Yes, much appreciated [you ****]. ;)

I don't get the continued referral to Pellegrini playing MD in midfield, he had no choice didn't he, Fernandinho got injured, Garcia was already injured, Rodwell was injured as fa as I recall and Milner wasn't fit to start (just back from injury), If all those choices were fit no way would have MD started in midfeld. Pellegrini in his first season here has got us playing great football, over 70% win success rate while having to navigate through a major system/style transition (from Mancini's style to his) , by far the worst injury record from the current title contendersand has been let down by several individual mistakes by the likes of Hart/Nastasic/Kompany at very key times. The Wigan game was a shame but as i recall that was the only game in that particular stretch that we could've rested a few players in, even if the man wanted to I highly doubt the guys at the top would've looked too kindly at playing a weaker team at Barcelona however slim the chances of getting through. He's not perfect of course, understandably he didn't realise the actual strengths/weaknesses of our squad several times this season as in how weak some of our backup players are, for eg- I think he made a mistake playing a few squad players at Sunderland Away, and one of my main complaints would be he does'nt seem to have realised the value of James Milner yet and that sometimes he needs to make the subs a bit earlier when required to retain control of the game (Something Bob wasn't afraid to do). Most of these should be corrected when he knows the squad inside out and the league better. We competed in all 4 competitions longer than anyone else, got to the CL knockouts a significant step, won the first Cup available to him and still in with a good shot at the league so very pleased with his first season, seems an excellent man manager- I like how he has got the most out of many of our players like Garcia/Nasri/Kolarov/Dzeko for example (and how he handled the Hart situation) and I like not having to read about bustups and training ground/dressing room fights and I like the manager not having a go at players in the media. Was a huge fan of Bob and he did his part in bringing the Club to this point but his time had come, Wish him all the best for the future but for the present, glad to have MP as manager and we should have an even better time next season when he knows the squad and the team much better and when we have better defensive backups, lets give him the chance he deserves
