Briefing the press to say its all the fault of players - naming three - who are likely to have to play in coming weeks in crucial games.

Why would the club do that? By basically saying to these guys - your fault and you are out - then, unless they have instructed Pellegrini not to play them how is that going to inspire them to play their guts out for the team?

Seems to make no sense.

Agreed. Looks like another poor decision. Looks like they will wait till we are already in 5th before they act.

Then there's the problem of FFP.

if City sacked Pellers and his coaching staff, it would cost the club millions, with no guarantee that Paddy or another short-term Manager would get us a CL place.

Then there's the fallout, similar to when we sacked Mancini on the eve of the cup final. That backfired and we lost the final. Do the club want to go to go down that road again, but this time with a CL place at stake?

needs to drop players for West Ham if it is the players fault then

That's way too simple a plan for the master tactician to understand.

Bigger problem is the potential replacements aren't good enough. Does anyone believe the likes of fernando, sagna and kolarov will inspire a better performance? Exactly. I know it's cool to say city fans should remember when we were shit but we are in danger of missing top 4 and to do so given the nature of the club today will make us a laughing stock imo.

Losing mentality = 'remember when we were crap?... we are better then we used to be'
Winning mentality = 'remember when were were champions?... we need to get back to that'

We are aiming to be regular champions. Not once, or twice, but consistent champions.... anything short of being champions should be a disappointment. Beaten by better teams? that's life. Beaten by yourselves? unacceptable.

Btw wouldnt Ancelotti cost us a lot? If Real is clever they dont fire him to compensate him but wait until we want to buy him out from them. So instead of they pay big to Ancelotti, actually they will be paid by us.

If it's true that he's staying, I can only think that they want to give him another year until guardiola is available.

And what happens if we don't make CL? Fail to attract decent players and are stuck with some of these under performers with a clueless one trick pony still at the helm?

Pep will hardly be knocking down the door to take up the post will he?

We should go after him at the end of the season and just virtually get him to name his price. Pay him whatever he wants. If he won't come then we rip up the plan and rewrite it, appointing someone else.

We have shopped at the managers equivalent of Sainsbury's for long enough. It's time we started shopping at Waitrose.

^^ haha.... some here will prolong their long winter depression due to this news and the derbys result yesterday...

The players have almost thrown two managers under the bus so both the team and Pellers are responsible.

That said, Pellers shot himself in the foot when he said refereeing decisions wouldn't count against us. He hadn't realised how spineless the officials are here. The offside Burnley goal was the turning point in the season.
mate, that was the same thing in malaga.

i follow pelle since villareal, and was always the usual critic from the fans, that he made every 2 games some stupid player changes (mostly too late on the second half, also too late reacted, almost if the team was losing the match) and that his tactics were bad and he never dare nothing and are too cautious. nothin new on that.

but at the other side, i have to say, he have a very good eye with some really good signs (isco, antonio valencia, diego lopez, diego godin, santi cazorla, nacho monreal, juan pablo sorin, giuseppe rossi, etc.) or get the best of some olders one (forlan, julio baptista, riquelme, etc.). what make me think now, that some city signs are not really 100% pelles sign... but, whatever...

and hes more a former, than a strategist, someone who bring more a football philisophie than titles... but i thought... you all have to know that, before he came, or??

:- )

Anyone at the club who is proportioning blame publicly either oughtn't to be talking to the press, or is more than a little desperate.

The only answer is - nothing to see here - there is always pressure, because we want to be the best. But it's business as usual, and everyone is working hard to win our next game.

Serious question.

Then why would Brennan put his head on the chopping block? He's been on here on numerous occasions and left with some credit. Get this wrong and who's going to believe Brennan again? Big call. He would only do it if he was briefed by the club. Basically the club is pointing the finger via Brennan, and making it very clear.

I understand the point but the article is primarily pointing the finger at the players and for this to have the desired effect, Pellers has to be shown some support.

I like Brennan and think he's shown a lot of balls on here. However, the MEN are 'briefed' to nothing like the same extent these days as they were in years gone by. I'm not saying this article wasn't briefed, but it could just as easily be speculation based on info from a source 'close to the club'.

Promise though mate, he is toast.

I appreciate he's probably toast, but I don't think those at the top want to pull the trigger now. They will want him to get into the CL first, and then they will pull the trigger. That way the new Manager will have CL football and money to spend. Getting rid now would cause more turmoil at the club, and in the media. The owners and club will get slaughtered. More damaging PR. Do it after the season is over, regardless, and it will make half the shockwaves.

Not if Real Madrid want rid of him more than we do Pellers. He can stay put and take the money,
Arguably we have more alternative managers than they do (since we'd probably settle for Rafa if push came to shove, but Real wouldn't!) Real can attract better managers, but there's a lot less of them acceptable to Real!
