I can't see Sheikh Mansour and Khaldoon being prepared to wait 12 months for Pep and sanctioning a one year contract for Rafa.

What if we're not in the CL, will Pep still come? No, if Txiki can't deliver Pep this Summer, which he can't, then we just forget about him.

This club has been drifting since Christmas. I didn't see this collapse coming and I bet they didn't in Abu Dhabi. The option of carrying
on with Pellegrini for another year, which was never ideal given he would have been a lame duck leader all next season has gone.

We need a permanent appointment this Summer and the manager needs to have the final say on transfers.

If Txiki doesn't like it then he can go as well.

I agree with most of your post. What if instead of having a manager who has final say on transfers (which is not the way it works with a DOF) we have a DOF who has final say on formation and tactics. For two years we have had a manager and DOF who don't see eye to eye.

That's what Rafa is now though, a great Europa League level manager.

He was CL quality in the 00's, since then a new generation has come around and have left him behind.
When has he had the chance to manage an elite side in the Champions League recently?

There is a reason for that, he isn't good enough anymore.

Inter Milan nearly finished him, luckily for him Chelsea game him a pathway back into management at a top club and even though he did win the EL with them he did have a team that was just recently crowned European Champions and a squad that was by far more well equipped than any other team in the EL at the time, it would have been immense failure had they not won it.

How Chelsea didn't make it out of the CL group stage with the players they had in the first place was a mystery, Di Matteo's poor management was probably the reason.

I just get the feeling this is Txiki bringing in a fellow countryman so he can have a stronger voice in the boardroom.

All this interim manager rubbish to wait for Pep is ridiculously small time in my opinion, it's a disgrace!

Well it made me laugh?!?! Not that much of a mystery if you know the answer?

;-)

Maybe not on the Italian sites but the news is filtering through.

Stunning swoop and rafa Benitez in the same sentence :(

Really hope this ain't true, would rather give big paddy a chance than get Benitez.

If they do decide to get rid of Pellers I would go for Klopp, young, charismatic and plays fast offensive football.
Forget about getting Pep In 2 years time. We are just treading water waiting for him to get bored at Bayern.

Why do we want Klopp? He is an overhyped, one dimensional, stubborn mule who does not have Plans B & C. They are struggling to avoid relegation this season as other teams have worked out how to play against his style/tactics. He is suited to manage a provincial club, but not a big club like ours.

if we dont change the manager before week end we are in trouble. it may not even be his fault this slump but the last thing we can do is sit on our hands then afterwards think what if. its a shame for the man but as always when something like this happens its the manager that cops it.

In England his prowess is indisputable.

Really?
Established Liverpool as a European heavyweight for the first time since the 80s until the Gillett/Hicks saga and then rescued Chelsea from freefall to a comfortable Champions League qualification and another European trophy.

Not particularly shabby.

Did fuck all with Liverpool in England despite spending loads.

Took over Chelsea in 3rd position with 24 points from 12 matches (2.0 ppg). They finished 3rd with 51 more points from the remaining 26 matches (1.9 ppg).

He had some good results in Europe but in England nothing special indeed.

Liverpool's remaining fixtures are West Brom (A), Hull (A), QPR (H), Chelsea (A), Crystal Palace (H), and Stoke City (A).

If they can find their form pre United they should win all those games except maybe the Chelsea match.

We still have to go away to Spurs and Swansea and still play Southampton at home, whom are another team we cannot discount.

Whilst we are still 4 points ahead I would change now and put Vieira in to give the boys a boost in motivation and a look up to a figurehead they will all respect.

If we let Liverpool get within 1 point we could well and truly be in panic stations, finishing 5th will set us back 5 years in my opinion.

I can't believe he has lasted till Tuesday. He should have been sacked in October. Woeful manager who got lucky with the team he inherited at the right time. When i see him on the box I'm starting to think he is also a mercenary. He's doing my head in!!!

Not sure about your last words , sides with money can come back quickly.

Granted you have to recruit better than your competition and in the past 8 windows we have been poor in that front.

That's what we have to get much better at and employ better operators in that regard than the Chelsea's Manure's and Arsenal's and Liverpools and Spurs etc etc who have bounced back quickly from under achieving like we have this year.

If we finish 5th we are going to have to pay extortionate prices to get players in and like the last time we were outside of the top 4 we had to offer ridiculous salaries.

Convincing players to come is going to be incredibly hard as well, even grade B players will be difficult to sign because most likely they will be coming from clubs who are also 5th or 6th placed in their countries.

FFP is still something we have to be wary of, we are not United who have a conveyor belt of sponsors paying them outrageous sums to be part of their brand, and much as it pains me to write they have a huge pull regardless of where they are in quality or position by being Manchester United, we don't have that aura yet.
