This interview of his doesn't seem to have gone over well with certain members of the press. Several journos including Hayward and McDonnell have the knives out, suggesting he is shifting blame from himself on to the players and things like FFP. tbh you really have to think the players deserve much of the blame because we saw the exact same thing in 2012/13 with a complete opposite to Pellegrini in charge.

David McDonnell is literally the last person in the entire trade whose opinion I would consider on anything to do with City. Paid up member of the United PR team and has been for years, it isn't even a secret.

All this rearguard support based on liking the guy and the initial good season - does it come with provisos that we finish top 4 or is it without any such onus and made on the understanding that he will be backed and transform his tactics, selections, set plays, man management over the summer.
At what point will he be accountable?

There has been a fascinating groundswell of support for him today. Having witnessed recent performances first hand I'm genuinely perplexed.

Me too. Words are cheap. Both his and the players. The idea that our pathetic performances are down to FFP is ludicrous. We still have an amazing squad, the bench against Burnley was probably as good a bench as you could find anywhere in world football.

He needs to look closer to home. The ridiculous team selections. Alienation of Jovetic. Pushing for Bony, who though good was not essential, then not playing him. And the defensive rotation.

I know, but it's the argument that he's being let down by the players that really irks me. He's the manager - he has every opportunity to handle each individual on a personal basis. A good manager knows what individuals respond to and it's a key part of management. If he is being let down - it would be wrong to simply absolve him of any responsibility.

Pellegrini's doing a fine job. His tactical nous and man management have been second to none. All we need to do is spend two hundred million pounds on new players and he'll be fine. ;)

Search back to THAT particular topic and you will find nearly everyone on here agreed on forehand. Now you blame him. How shrewed...

Some soft fukers on here, you can tell they haven't been with us very long. Really disappointed with some of our so called fans comments

Welp that's us told. You heard him guys the worlds biggest City fan ever has spoken. Lets just bury our heads in the sand.

Hahaha my thoughts exactly

Not bin with us long either ?

Re: Manuel Pellegrini (interesting interview pg 115)

I think he has been let down by some of the players but you can only use that excuse for so long when you keep picking those same players.

As interviews go, I thought it was rather good, however, it was littered with comparisons and observations (on his part) that just didn't sound plausible.

He's correct in saying United and Chelsea have spent more than us this season, and the teams like Arsenal and Spurs could be comparable (this season), but the general public opinion, and probably that of any sane City fan is that in the last 5 years or so, we've spent much more than others.
His inference that Spurs can be considered on a par with us is just not going to wash.
He also makes mention of wanting to progress. As a club, we have. We've better finances this year, and an increased capacity, not to mention the opening of the collar site. But on the pitch, nobody in their right mind can consider this season 'progress'. It MAY turn out that some of our signings are a step back in order to step forward next season... but that's clutching as straws.

We'll also get little sympathy with any FFP argument. For anybody but the passioned City fan, City cannot hold any credible argument about having spending curtailed this season. Nobody will buy it, and it sounds churlish.

Other than that, he's a very likeable guy and comes across better in this interview than he does on TV.
Initially his TV appearances were quite good, but as time has progressed, there's little variation in his demeanour, and it can come across as lacking in much passion. When we are winning, he's too cool for school, but when we are losing, a little bit of anger / emotion wouldn't go amiss.

Sadly I fear it may all be a little too late for him. Even if he doesn't leave City this season, the tide has started to turn, and it's very hard to turn around fans once doubts set in. A stunning finish to the season might help, but doubts will still linger.

I'm irritated by poor tactics, but I'm completely fed up of changing managers, and most of all, I'm tired of seeing players willing to contribute when things are going well, but going missing when things aren't so good.

I'd like the team to start backing the manager, and doing so with good performances.... they MIGHT just save him. He's worth saving isn't he?

I didn't read his article but a quite liked your post about it thanks.

You seriously think either of those have had any effect at all ? Deary me.....

....but you might be onto something with this one, in fact I'd go so far as to say its the biggest factor of all.
