He'll be here longer than that imho.

Could prove to be a very testing time for those who have their hearts and minds firmly set on him leaving.

Must admit that my view has mellowed since Saturday. There's some things which I think will be important if he does stay this summer, probably the most important being to ensure that we don't add to the squad in such a manner that we continue to buy players solely to play in a 442 system. The root of that is the 4 strikers in the squad thing which we've had since Mancini was in charge. I'd like to see Jovetic leave, and for us to replace him with a 'crack' winger - thus leaving us with Dzeko, Kun, and Bony as the three forwards. The other thing we need to look at desperately is a genuine ball playing midfield player (like Gundogan or Verrati). Again this type of player may not be suited to playing in a 442 but is a kind of player we absolutely need in the squad.

The key will be the turnover of players this summer. It certainly seems like all the noises are that after three years of limited spending due to FFP we can go out and add real first XI players to the squad. I personally expect that we'll see three/four new faces in the best XI next season. Could make all the difference.

Anyway onwards and upwards for tonight and the rest of the season.

I said after the game and after some initial concerns have always maintained, the man isn't a bad manager. You don't become a bad manager in the space of 10 games and last season he shown his ability to inspire this team to greatness as well as his tactical nous which is somehow questioned nowadays as it always is when things go badly, whether they are tactical geeks like AvB or charlatans like 'Arry.

He has one year left on his deal with probably not an extension forthcoming. Despite what happens tonight if he can manage to keep us second or third for the rest of the year then I see no reason for him to not see out the remainder of his deal. He isn't going to bring through young players and I accept that that isn't who he is as a manager so getting continuously upset by it is probably not the smartest thing in the world.

Have to disagree with one point though; I don't think Txiki is buying players to fit a 4-4-2. I think he buys players who improves the squad and leaves the rest for the manager to work out. It is how he worked at Barcelona and when you think about the purchases of people like Jovetic and Fernando who don't really fit that system then I think there's some merit to thinking that here too.

4 strikers gives you more options than 3 strikers. You can play any system then that relies on a 2 striker setup and do so knowing that you aren't having problems with rotation. Even if you never use your fourth striker, it is better to have the option available than not to have it. We have gaps in the squad already and removing potential options, which bear in mind that the next manager might want to use, seems to be self-defeating.

I can live with going out tomorrow night to barcelona, but what I want to see win lose or draw is a genuine team effort from the players and a bit of fucking management from the bench. if that doesn't happen then tomorrow should be his last game in charge. I've had enough of cheap talk from the players, half hearted performances and clueless team selection.
Absolutely sums up my feelings entirely

Me too. Words are cheap. Both his and the players. The idea that our pathetic performances are down to FFP is ludicrous. We still have an amazing squad, the bench against Burnley was probably as good a bench as you could find anywhere in world football.

He needs to look closer to home. The ridiculous team selections. Alienation of Jovetic. Pushing for Bony, who though good was not essential, then not playing him. And the defensive rotation.

Search back to THAT particular topic and you will find nearly everyone on here agreed on forehand. Now you blame him. How shrewed...

It was bad man management-whoever it came from, it wont have gone down well with the Balkan boys who have an all for one and one for all mentality, it cant have gone down well in the dressing room whichever way you dress it up.

All we have heard since he came is how good his man management is and has been at previous clubs, its an example that that's no always the case, Navas in the squad ,Navas out, ditto Milner, ditto Nasri, makes you wonder what some of the players think of him.

If Bony hadn't come in Pellegrini didn't have to make a descision at all. However I was of the opinion at the time it was Bony who should have been left out. Coming to City was already a huge step for him and he could have settled easier during the remaining part of the season. That way Jovetic or any other name would have to be upset. But loads on here thought Bony was going to be the answer to all our problems.

But that's another discussion. I was pointing this out because it is being used against Pellegrini in hindsight and for explaining he should go. Total rubbish imo and everybody agreed on that at the time. So it's pretty fickle don't you think?

Same with playing formations. In hindsight, if he plays 4-5-1 and we drop points he should've gone for 4-4-2 or the other way round. Stupid. Moreso if you considder not a single formation is right when players don't perform. That however is his responsibillity, but I am getting tired of all the excuses being made up to prove Pellegrini shoudl go. He shouldn't and tbh I don't think he will unless we drop out of the top 4.

Jovetic, isn't really an out and out striker, he plays as a second striker but drops a lot deeper and receives the ball, he's a good alternative to Silva and Nasri if either is injured or out of form, he has more to his overall game than Dzeko and Bony in my opinion., he's been unlucky at City from day one-strange that he brought him on against Burnley though don't you think- expecting him to bust a gut after being omitted.

Bony so far hasn't brought anything extra to the team, doesn't look like scoring at all to be honest,

Dam, are you telling me that the manager has no say or decision at all in the recruitment of players? I get all this play to a system throughtout the club structure which is a great idea but surely the manager must have an input?

Primarily because it looks as tho the man they really want isn't available

Or its always been the plan.

If it means that we get Pep next summer then I could handle another season of Pellegrini

But it would mean that some serious changes need to be made to the playing staff this summer

Which by all accounts is about to happen :-)

I normally take any ITK posts with a pinch of salt but Danamy has made a couple over the last few days which although fairly cryptic and revealing no names, allude to some major signings. My feelings on reading them are we're going balls deep for Bale.
