Always find it really odd when people say Pellegrini couldn't have done the job Mancini did. Pellegrini's record in terms of taking sides from a very low base and turning them into CL teams is how he built his reputation in Europe. I would suggest at the very least he would have had similar results to Mancini - just without all the bellyaching and drama and histrionics. He probably would've been better in the transfer market too. Mancini bought a lot of players with little thought as to how his team were going to play.

Like who? Mancini bought silva, Yaya, dzeko, aguero, boeteng(despite being a flop but is now one of the best defenders), de Jong.

Mancini didn't buy bad players, but there was a lack of joined up thinking in terms of the make up of the squad and what the squad required. The real proof for me is in our travails in the CL and how we spent an insane amount of money on a collection of players who never got close in that competition. In and of itself that suggests a lack of joined up thinking because when you're spending money at that level you'd expect the person doing the buying to know what characteristics the squad had and what they were lacking both in terms of the CL and the PL.

It's water under the bridge so it's really not a big deal. Well for everyone expect posters like @George Hannah who became so obsessed with Mancini and his image that they are literally still posting on Bluemoon like it's the summer of 2013.

We'll never know how Pellegrini would have fared at that time, just as we'll never know if we'd have had the same or more success had Mancini stayed.

Both did/have done good jobs and should be appreciated.

I always saw you as the obsessed one where Mancini was concerned.

I probably was. However I learned a lot from that period in time. Lessons I'm guessing one or two others like George, haven't come close to learning. Time is a great leveller and looking back Mancini took the club kicking and screaming into the big time. That's an enormous achievement and one which has him indelibly inked into our history in a way in which no other manager will be. Him and Pellegrini are both in my top 3 City managers of all time.

We may never know for certain but we can look at Pellegrini's record before coming to City and apply it to the club Mancini took over. It's not really a leap in logic when speculating on things like this. Just as it isn't a leap in logic to look at Mancini's record prior to coming to City and extrapolate that his time at the club had come to an end because of his own shortcomings as a manager, and that prolonging his tenure would've only seen the club go backwards.

Only problem with Pellegrini is when everyone is fit he puts Square pegs in Round holes..

Saying that though who would leave out Aguero Silva yaya or KDB if all fit?
