Sabella would be great.
And he already has the new lineup in mind:

He was only defensive for Argentina because their defence was nowhere near good enough to play an expansive game, their midfielders were work horses more than out and out technicians and the team had to helped together by Mascherano at times.

They missed Di Maria badly when he got injured because they struggled to get the ball up the pitch quick enough and it forced Messi to have to come deep and try and go on on some mazy dribbles or offer a wonder through ball.

It was a shame Sergio was nowhere near fit to play and many argue he shouldn't have gone to Brazil, Messi was tired after 18 months worth of injuries and Higuain was inconsistent.

I think Sabella would be a good option for us, he is tactically decent and like I said earlier, you are no mug if you win the Copa Libertadores, both Simeone and Pellegrini failed to win it.

Mmm, thats what I wanted to avoid now here...

To come to an obvius:

Defensive tactics coaches (Sabella, Mouninho, etc) v/s Pelles tactics (here Sampaoli + Bielsa too)

Because is a so much loaded dogmatic discusion.

And yes, the defensive coaches have won more than the others....

But I would prefer to analize each one in details. In fact Sabella is for me more than a defensive coach, a practical one, not so cinical and ego trip typ one like Maureen... something different

I think Saballa could be a good fit for City, personally.

He knows English football as well.

Re: Discussion: Potential Pellegrini Replacements

I know I am exaggerating a bit. ...
But Sabella has always played defensive football. No doubt of that.
However his tactical skills are good.

For me his highest achievement was that game against the best Barca ever in the 2009 FIFA Club World Cup Final.
Barca finally won 2-1 in extra time.
Sabella was coaching Estudiantes, by far a more modest team than that of Guardiola.

On the other hand, his worst mistake was to take to the last WC 2 forwards that were injured (Higuain and Kun) thinking they would recover during the WC.

Re: Discussion: Potential Pellegrini Replacements

Latest odds

Next permanent Manchester City manager: 6/4 Carlo Ancelotti; 4/1 Diego Simeone; 7/1 Pep Guardiola; 8/1 Jurgen Klopp; 9/1 Patrick Vieira; 10/1 Rafa Benitez; 11/1 Ronald Koeman; 16/1 Antonio Conte; 25/1 Brendan Rodgers; 25/1 Joachim Loew; 33/1 Andre Villas-Boas; 40/1 Fabio Capello

Not really sure of that at all...

I still think the true mistake was not to have DI MARIA fit in the final match against the germans. He would have made the difference in this game... :/

1) What do you think of Sampaoli?

2) Who do you think would be good hires for us? Maybe some names we aren't familiar with

Not sure of what?
Both Higuain and Aguero told the media they were not fit during the WC.
So Sabella had to play Palacio

Re: Discussion: Potential Pellegrini Replacements

We do need a new manager and a adaptable one in regards to different tactics! But even a very good manager like ancelotti/simone wouldn't have beaten barca over 2 legs with our team/squad we are a good 4/5 players short of being able to compete with the best in europe! So even with a new manager he needs being armed with the new players like kondogbia, pogba, de brunne, bale
