So the club's just willing to tread water until Pep becomes available?

Even then, there's no guarantee he would come here.

Our club/board is not infallible as some like to pretend.

Fortunately for us the Owners and the board are successful business people and look at the bigger picture rather than short term.

We are in good hands and these guys do not make Knee Jerk reactions.
So this summer we let Pellegrini loose with a blank cheque book to bring in the players he wants to then go for Pep in 2016; assuming he agrees to join.

What if he doesn't want half the new players brought in?

Will the players be brought in with Pep in mind? Is that fair to Pellegrini?

What if Pep says no?

The club may have wanted it to play out that Pellegrini's here for 3 years and then Pep but as we hear all the time on transfers, things change. Not only could Pep go elsewhere, or stay put, or go on holidays again... but you then lose sight of the short term. How we've played well below par this season and according to reports are merely treading water and biding our time on Pep; do you sacrifice another potential trophyless season for someone who may not even agree to be the next manager? Or do we chuck a load of money around in the summer and run the risk of doing the same the next year when a new manager comes in? That would be great "bigger picture" planning...

Successful businessmen can fuck up, they can make mistakes; every football club's owner is a "successful businessman". And by seemingly putting all our eggs in Guardiola's basket, we run the risk of doing that for a second season.

This has nothing to do with Pep - it's all to do with starting the next cycle, bringing in the right players for MP and the club.

Maybe you should apply for a job at City - they are always looking for people with vision - by all accounts you know the key to the door.

My comment stands - City are not just looking at the next 2/3 years - they are looking way beyond that - I truly believe MP will be here next year and he will have some players that he can coach into playing the way they want to play.

MP's football philosophy is not too far from some of the big boys - he just needs the right tools to implement it -

In my opinion - this cycle of 5 successful years has come to an end - The RAGs have gone through it many times, Chelsea are part way through their transition. We are about to start ours - Some players just do not fit in and trusted by the looks of it

Re: Ancelotti to City??

I like a bit of debate but I don't see why there is much at all on this subject.

As far as I can tell anyone with any links to the club (and this includes journalists, other footballers past and present and footy administrators) know that City want Pep and that certain conversations have already taken place.

The outcome is never guaranteed but I would wager a shiny sixpence that Txiki's future is inexorably tied to his ability to bring Pep to City.

As for Pellegrini being 'let loose with City's cheque book this summer' - we all know, dont we, that the manager at City doesnt decide on who to buy and at what price? Or have you all missed the last 5 years of transfer strategy?

Basically feel decisions should be made as soon as the season ends. Especially given managers tend not to stay around that long these days. Do we want every other season to be a poor one.[/quote]

I would settle for every other season bringing a trophy, yes.

Especially as finishing second is now considered poor.

Re: Ancelotti to City??

He made pretty nice teams in Paris and Madrid, so why not? He will achieve good results although, probably, not regulary, he will give youngsters a chance, he will led us to sucess in the champions league! And this is the main thing IMO. But real would let him go only if they are able to appoint Klopp.

Happy we won't appoint Simeone, his style of play and his transfer policy is not what we need

Staggering some of the entitled posters talking about what constitutes poor and what doesn't. All I can do is cringe.

Also perfect riposte from fbloke. I'll take a title every other season for the rest of my living life !

2 points.

You know that is not going to happen as football is cyclical but what we can expect is not to just toss away League Titles when we have the best team.

is there such a thing as a non living life?

Ha he fell into your web there didn't he?
Bit like global warming - the every other season sequence needs more data. My fear is that if we keep the current Manager and/or another poor transfer window, we might see more glaciers receding.

Re: Ancelotti to City??

Ancelotti on a 1 year deal wouldn't be the worst option.

He was only at PSG for a year (where he did well) and he's only been at Real Madrid for 18 months now.

Last season was his first season at Real Madrid and he resolved their small problems and won them the Champion's League.

I don't think it's a case of Ancelotti or Pep, Ancelotti for a year then Pep is an option IMO.
