Oh we're back to blaming this guy every time we get beat after wanking themselves silly after he landed 2 of our top 3 targets in the summer and brought in the best defender in La Liga, the just landed us the best coach in the world.

Love Bluemoon.

Has anyone blamed Chappy yet?

That would certainly be the case if everyone had spent the same amount of money. As it is we have spent far more over the last 3 years than anyone bar United. And of those titles, the only truly influential player Txiki has signed is Fern. With the money he has spent, and the squad he inherited, I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a better, more balanced, dare I say younger squad.

But I would say that transfer fees can no longer be bracketed together from one year to the next as they increase beyond any kind of rational understanding. Once the rags spunk Messi kind of money on DiMaria, then DeBruyne or Sterling become relative to that.

Our cbs don't look great, but I don't see how anyone can pick out Sterling or DeBruyne as bad signings, nor Fernandinho, Negredo, even Navas. Bony to me is the going rate for such a player & was our worst nightmare a a cf when he played for Swansea & has scored key goals in spite of fitness problems etc. Sagna, nice price & currently essential to us in every game.

I really don't see a problem now or in the past with the usefulness of our signings compred to anyone else's.

The signings are what they are you don't know how they will work out until u sign them but my biggest issue is our defence, I can't understand why Txiki has not brought in a defensive coach when it's clear to everyone watching that it's simply not working.

It isn't something he would really do.

The odd request aside like Brian Kidd, managers have to be able to choose their own staff. And to be honest "defensive coaches" don't really exist in football outside of a few notable examples because this way of thinking about the game isn't really how the pros do it. They don't separate attack and defence in the way that fans do in such a clear cut manner, it is more of a whole system which has to work in tandem. Dare I say, top level coaches look at football more holisticly than fans generally do.

In one..............

In one..............

Yeah that De Bruyne is obviously not "an influential player". Sterling's not influential either like when he came on against Gladbach and stood around doing nothing.

Some people on this site are thick as fuck, I swear to God.

And you're back to exalting the players he has signed, without mention of the money spent or the ensuing results. It seems we are all predictable.

I do not doubt his unrivaled connections within the game or ability to land Pep, but fail to see how either is relevant to his distinctly average recruitment record here.

You'll have to accept my apology, I didn't realize Kev and Raheem were part of a title squad, which was the point the previous poster made.

Could have done much better to date.

A lot hanging on Pep and the players he will be able to bring in as a result.

As for the side we should be doing much better and Bony and Mangala might already have to be sold off in the summer for losses.

Not happy with the work rate of Delph , Sterling and Kevin to date but alot invested in the latter two and hopefully they will improve with time.

Because his recruitment record is good and it's not his fault if the manager doesn't know how to play an organised defence. Every single time we get beat people slag off the Director of Football. Every single time we win this thread is silent. That tells you everything you need to know about why he is getting criticized and why it's completely stupid to do so.

And it's always the same shite from the same people who literally do not know what his job is.

Yeah, "over the last 3 years" obviously denotes the time period that ended on May 30th. Makes perfect sense that.

I understand why he gets criticized after losses and not wins, but fail to see why it is stupid to hold him accountable when players he signed for high fees utterly fail to improve us as a team. For clarity, it is too early to judge signings from the past window, but it seems as though you think he is immune to any criticism whatsoever. Please enlighten the uneducated masses what his job is, because it seems player recruitment should be at the forefront. And if the manager is incapable of integrating such inspired signings, why does he still have a job?

As to your final point, which was impressively stated, the poster who I initially quoted cited 2 league titles as evidence for Txiki's effectiveness. In response, I said that Fern was the only player signed by Txiki who was influential in either of the aforementioned titles, so affording him credit was a bit daft. I admit I may have shortchanged Navas a bit, but your responses have been a bit nonsensical. Tending this site has undoubtedly been quite difficult over the last 12 hours, but repeatedly insisting that the masses are too daft to understand the DOF's job seems like an odd place to take a stand.
