I knew a very nice woman at work who met someone, decided to marry him and went off for an expensive wedding in St Lucia.

Within six months he was shagging someone else and the marriage was over. For some blokes, and no doubt some women, shagging around is a sort of hobby, like following City or taking photos of wildlife. If that's how you are, there's no point in getting married as it just breeds sorrow and expense.
