Do foreign fans understand the hatred?

Back in the 60s n 70s I didn't hate united just loved city and was so lucky to start supporting them from 66, but I never hated united had loads of united mates who came to watch city with me, but since the early 80s I started to dislike their fans, but now I hate their players especially that Rooney I absolutely detest this person, their manager is a bullying arrogant hypocrite, their fans are the shithouse scum of football, their behaviour at the semi was the most gutless I have ever witnessed, their arse licking media are cowards who have to tow the party line, so in general in the space of 46 years I've gone from being acquainted to total loathing of that club, with tottenham
In a close second.

I have a mate who is from Nigera and he now lives and breaths City, and incidently before any of the foreign haters "not in my club start" he strated to support city before the take over.

If anyone is not from Manchester and never gets to Manchester then I genuinely believe that to 'live and breath' City (or United) is a sign of genuine mental deficiencies.

(It could also probably be argued that any hardcore football fan has some sort of version of this).

I mean, let's get this straight. Someone decides that something as bland and unimportant as a sports club is going to be placed at the centre of their life. And what's more, that's sport club has absolutely no real connection with their life and never will.

But because they are incapable of just enjoying a sport and it's performance for what it is, they feel they have to manufacture this rabid 'support' for them. And pretend that they 'feel it' like people who do have a connection with the club and genuinely have it intertwined with their daily life or the lives of their friends and family.

That is the sign of a nutter imo because anyone of sane mind would recognise that it is mad and they are deluding themselves once they had passed the age of 13.

(The above isn't just about City, it is about any sports club)

I grew up in northern California, always liked football, never followed it too closely. The only friends of mine who liked football were all United fans, which annoyed me, because I knew it was only because they won everything. Just like northern California Lakers fans, which I absolutely despise. Anyway, I decided I wanted to pick a team to support, so I chose to support whoever United's biggest rivals were. I'd check up on City, and see how they were doing, but it was hard to follow closely because so few games were televised. As internet streams became more common, I followed more closely.

I've since moved to London (been here a few years now) which is when I really started watching every single match. So, now I've experienced the English rags versus the American rags...both highly obnoxious. In American sports, I'm a San Francisco fan...and if you do a little research, you'll see that the Giants/Dodgers and 49ers/Raiders rivalries are VERY intense. There's been some murders recently at the games...so, I know what it's like to have a team that you absolutely hate.

Anyway, the whole reason I chose City in the first place was to oppose the annoying California United fans. I made a great choice.

What a silly question.

Do you honestly think that there is only rivalry in England? Try going to an Ajax v Feyenoord or pretty much any Polish game - then you'll see that we have what is more like a very strong dislike for the rags compared to what goes on elsewhere in Europe.

Hate is a very strong word and it's a word I would try not to equate with football, dislike may be, but hatred is taking it all a bit too far in my opinion.

When all said and done it's a game of football, the operative word being GAME, to hate one set of people because they support another club, is taking it all a bit too far

i hate the rags more than any other group of people.

if they played adolf hitlers all star 11, i'd still want them to lose.

cunts every single last one of them.

I was a season ticket holder from being 10 till the age of thirty, when I emigrated to Australia and when I arrived here if you mentioned Manchester they automatically said U....d,I'd always feign ignorance of there existance(much to the wife's annoyance).
My son who's 3 was proudly wearing his new kit he got for his birthday, when some Irish rag decided to say something to him, frightening him to death.
Every time he sees a rag shirt he hides behind his mums legs and with careful prompting he will come to despise them as much as his dad, though by the time he's able to comprehend all this they will be in the same state as Leeds or Sheffield Utd.

This is exactly how I feel about it.

Have you heard of the north carolina-duke rivalry?

My buddy got tickets for the game! He's flying out to NC tomorrow. I'm jealous, even though I'm not really an ACC fan. It's supposed to be one of the hardest tickets to come by in the whole country. Absolutely insane atmosphere at those games.
