Do foreign fans understand the hatred?

The vast majority of "foreign" fans are from the north west and grew up in the Uk so understand it only too well. I would also say having lived in Manchester and elsewhere being away from Manchester makes you hate united more. I always found when I lived in south Manchester there were more blues than reds, when you move to Sydney or London or travel around Asia you are suddenly outnumbered 99-1 by big mouth ignorant rags who are a far worse breed than the Manchester based ones. So yes we understand and in a funny way the question could almost be reversed.

I'm pretty sure foreign fans get it quite well...

For foreign fans we still have to put up with rag fans which don't know f**k all about their club etc.

However, I have met some decent United fans and when they really know their stuff then I have no problem with most tbh.

But we get it.

What a silly question.

Do you honestly think that there is only rivalry in England? Try going to an Ajax v Feyenoord or pretty much any Polish game - then you'll see that we have what is more like a very strong dislike for the rags compared to what goes on elsewhere in Europe.
Hatred and mindless hooliganism are two completely different things.............

I fucking understand. All I grew up with was a bunch of plastic arrogant twat rag fans. You know how many conversations I had like this:

Some twat: "oh you like football, who do you support?"
Me: "Man city of course"
Some twat: "who?"
Me: "the greatest team in all the world, Manchester City"
Some twat: "oh you mean manchester united? Me too!!"
Me: "no I don't fucking mean manchester united!!"

So maybe I dont understand quite as much cause I'm not a Manc but I really, really, REALLY fucking hate them

Totally agree. I've got one rag mate at high school who really knows his stuff and is great to talk too, so there are always exceptions. But, we get the hatred.

Don't do hate, just support the team and enjoy the ride.

Why choose to feel miserable, angry, hateful and waste your time hating people from other football clubs, Man U or whatever?

I find it cringeworthy when people think that hating other teams or their supporters else makes you a better supporter or fan, and this clip does a hell of a job of illustrating this viewpoint:

So true

What I've noticed when I've followed the links to RedCafe is that the posters there always, in the threads I've seen, refer to City, club and fans, as "City". But here there are all sorts of derogatory terms used for United, as well as for Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal (I wouldn't regard "Spuds" derogatory so much as affectionate). I doubt that all those posters there are really City fans incognito, so why all the nastiness from the City side?

If there is one thing more laughable than a City fan (or you can apply it to other clubs too) ranting about how much he hates United and all their fans are complete pricks - even though he most probably lives, works with and is related to them - to a man, as if it justifies his status as a 'massive' fan, it is someone from nowhere near Manchester doing the same.

At least the sad case from Manchester who defines himself in those sort of terms has some sort of rationale, probably having grown up amongst it, unable to escape the Manchester footballing landscape and coming to resent the all pervading arrogance of rags that he came up against every single day.

But those who are seeking to equate it to similar scenes in London or the US or Malaysia are comical . How funny it is that the 'London/US/Malaysian rags' that they bravely face and despise day after day are no-nothing, glory hunting, spineless clowns who support a club that has nothing to do with them, whereas they are dedicated, loyal, knowledgeable people who support a club that has nothing to do with them. To a man. Amazing!

(PS: I know that location alone does not mean that a club has nothing to do with them. But in 90% of the cases it does - think of all the tenuous 'links' and justification that you have heard down the years and laughed at from Cockney rags, etc.)

If someone from another country wants to tell me that they 'feel' Manchester City in the same way as me and my mates who grew up with it do then, yes, I find them ridiculous. Just as I always have with other clubs. The fact that this is pretty much at odds with my politics and outlook on every other aspect of life is irrelevant. In fact, it is because football is actually a pretty insignificant matter in the scheme of things that such nonsense rhetoric and justification is so sad and pathetic.)

Yours

JMA (Huge, massive Buffalo Bulls, Real Madrid, Miami Heat and Manly Sea Eagles fan who lives and breathes for them and understands them just as well as anyone from Buffalo, Madrid, Miami or Manly and how dare you suggest otherwise! How couldn't I? I LOVE them and HATE all their rivals. Whenever I meet a fan of their rivals in Manchester they are sooooooooo different to me.)
