Do you support the RMT?

where Mick Lynch bamboozles them is that he just tells it as it is. So when he accuses the Govt of intervening in negotiations ( which they continually deny ) is that he explains that when they make a proposal the employers have to leave the room and call the DfT who then call the Treasury and 45 mins later they come back with an answer that they couldn't give without DfT and Treasury approval.

Jenrick just sat there in silence because he couldn't deny it. Thornbury sat there silent with a smirk on her face and Peston blustered to try and move on from the awkward truth

I get that it's probably in her interest and possibly good politics to keep well out of it, especially given the (seemingly failed) narrative that the Tories have tried to create. I just find it a bit dispiriting.
Totally get that and if we could have 300 Mick Lynchs in Parliament, the country would be in a better place.

Sadly, we don’t and we just get to watch him destroy any Tory or simpleton presenter/journalist.

Hopefully he reminds the general public that we do have these orators who can tear down half baked criticisms and lies and that we covet them to be in Parliament asap.

TOCS have committed Sundays in their contracts. Meaning staff are expected to work their booked turns unless they can find cover. There's very few workers still on their original BR contracts which state Sundays are voluntary.

Yeah but it’s all still overtime, right?

So if the government say no overtime then it’s no trains surely?

I'd hazard a guess that 90% of the public are not aware the railways need OT and rest day working in order to fulfil their published timetables. Schapps may also be unaware, or he could just be stirring the shit.

So at the moment next week should be normal service on the railways - except the Tory government is actually proposing that the TOCs have a policy that would have the same effect as if the union had balloted its members for action short of a strike...

Surely the Tories are not that stupid.

I suspect they are. Not only that, and I might well have misunderstood, but are they looking to bring untrained agency staff it to run the trains and signals, effectively ‘breaking the strike’ and, if they are, isn’t that what Shapps condemned P&O for?

It is what Shapps condemned P&O for however you are also right in that the idea you can put an agency worker aa a train guard is utter bollocks. Remember drivers are not part of this. When pressed on it Shapps said he was talking about platform and ticket staff ( Johnson has since said they want rid of ticket offices - this is that sort of joined up govt ).

At the end of the day all that threat - in relation to any job - is utter bollocks too - we have huge vacancies and low unemployment. There are no vast banks of agency workers to call upon. I heard a recruitment company owner say just that on Tuesday on the radio. However much the change legislation however much they want employers to be able to access agency workers thanks to Brexit those agency workers are not there kicking their heels. All smoke and mirrors - usual Tory tactics - create diversion and distraction rather than govern

“More fool you for not receiving a pay rise for 5 years”.
Do you honestly believe someone would go along with that by choice.
Then to call them a fool is just insulting.
No, I don't believe they would go along with that by choice, but getting angry and upset with those that are starting to refuse being treated like shit and doing something about it after 12 years of piss taking is missing the point.

Maybe they should start looking after themselves, and not meekly lying down and accepting whatever is being offered to them, which is probably their position.

If calling him a fool upsets you, then so be it, but it has been a bloody struggle over decades for us to enjoy such simple things like paid holidays, free healthcare, maternity leave, and all the other benefits we take for granted, every single one of which has been introduced by Labour or Liberal governments, and always opposed by tory politicians.

That's what I meant by 'more fool you'.

It is socialism that has given us everything we take for granted, and a kneejerk reaction from a government that has no plan, no forward thinking, and hasn't the collective brains to look after the ordinary person but will happily accept Russian money into their coffers, doesn't represent anyone struggling with the cost of living crises, and someone not recieving a pay rise for 5 years ought to be giving their head a wobble and asking themselves why?

Brilliant. Why don’t we all get off our fucking knees and take these bastards on. We build everything, we hold the line when the country is in crisis, we fight and win every fucking war we have ever fought and we get jackshit for it. The right wing vermin press try to convince us it’s our fault, and too many utter thick fucking cunts buy it. And don’t look to those utter shitebags in the Labour Party who suck the cock of the money people thinking that’s the way. It isn’t stand up for the people who created you. Utter scum I hate them more than Tories. The Tories are our enemy, they bastards are supposed to be on our side. Starmer, go fuck yourself you upper middle class piece of cowardly shit.
Absolutely brilliant post.
I admire someone who has the balls to say what he really thinks and by the number of likes you got, your not on your own.
Unfortunately for you and the many on this thread who share your views, in order to achieve your dream in a Democracy, you need to attach yourself to a major political party.
It’s never going to be the Tories so it only really leaves Labour.
Moderate Joe Public, fear there are just too many with extreme views like yours (and others on here to be fair to you),who have infiltrated the Party is the reason why they struggle to get in to power.
The extreme left inflict more damage on the Party than the Tories could ever do.

I'm not sure it will come to that because after reading that tweet you posted, it sounds like Habib is blaming the government for this and may actually be in Lynch's corner on QT tonight!
